Composer and arranger Albert W Ketèlbey is now almost unknown except for his work Bells Across the Meadows but until the time of the Second World War he strode the country’s musical stage like a giant of light musical entertainment. In 1929 he was declared ‘Britain’s greatest composer’ according to the number of performances of his works. Over the course of his career he was a church Organist musical director at London’s Vaudeville Theatre editor to several music publishing firms and Music Director of the Columbia Gramophone Company. His most popular works appear to be a series of Orchestral tone poems like Sanctuary Of The Heart based on a verse from hisown poem In a Monastery Garden printed in the score.

The songbook of Four Quiet Interludes comprises 1. Elegiac 2. Dorian 3. Pastorale (By The Waters Of Babylon) and 4. Choral which includes a voicing of 'Jesu! The very thought is sweet'. These pieces demonstrate Lloyd Webber’s strong melodic and harmonic gifts.Organist composer teacher and arranger William Lloyd Webber – father of musicians Andrew Lloyd Webber and Julian Lloyd Webber – was a twentieth century English musician who was not only a church Organist but a well-known recitalist and teacher at the Royal College of Music. His works arose from the Romantic tradition which he felt became ‘out of step’ as modern styles changed. His work is enjoying a revaluation.

A second book of One Hundred Progressive Sight Reading Exercises for Piano students by Edwin Somes . A research conducted by Dianne Hardy in 1998 found that although 86% of Piano teachers polled rated sight-reading as the most important or a highly important skill only 7% of them said they address it systematically. Reasons cited were a lack of knowledge of how to teach it inadequacy of the training materials they use and deficiency in their own sight-reading skills. Teachers also often emphasize rehearsed reading and repertoire building for successful recitals and auditions to the detriment of sight-reading and other functional skills. Thisseries sets out to change this.
