This piece for Trumpet and Piano was likely to have been an audition set piece for final examination at the Madrid Conservatoire. The Andante is designed to show off the performer's ability to play a slow melody and the Allegretto demands flamboyance. The whole piece has a light Spanish feel in the manner of Bizet's Carmen which dates from the same period.

As the title suggests there is a wide range of styles represented in the eight pieces making up the album – one piece in each of the Baroque Classical and Romantic styles and from the twentieth century a film theme tune a piece of 1930's jazz and 'Fever' from the 1950's (which requires the pianist to be able to click his fingers as well as play the right notes!) The album is completed by a short original piece 'Thin Ice'.

As well as providing material which is enjoyable to play the student's musicality is developed by virtue of the fact that the pieces are genuine duos between the two instruments. The 'give and take' between trombone and piano necessitates careful listening and a sympathetic response from both performers.
