Born in 1941 the British composer Derek Bourgeois gained a doctorate at Cambridge before spending two years at the Royal College of Music where he studied composition with Herbert Howells and conducting with Sir Adrian Boult. Bourgeois has composed seventeen symphonies twelve concertos and a considerable quantity of chamber vocal and instrumental music as well as twelve extended works for Brass Band and five symphonies for Symphonic Wind Orchestra. Sonatina For Trumpet Op. 347 is a rousing piece in three movements composed for Trumpet and Piano.
