The Missa in D minor published here the third of Haydn's six late masses was written during the summer of 1798 between the two late oratorios. According to the dates given on Haydn's autograph score he completed the composition in less than eight weeks. The score bears no particular title but in Haydn's manuscript thematic catalogue of his works he referred to it as Missa in Angustiis. Joseph Haydn's Missa In Angustiis (Hob. XXII:11) for SATB.

Giuseppe Verdi's Quattro Pezzi Sacri for SATB and Piano. The single works forming the sacred music cycle 'Quattro pezzi sacri' were composed as independent pieces between 1889 and 1897. The scoring ranges from solo voices a cappella to double choir with large orchestra. In 1898 the year of their first joint performance Verdi had them published together as 'Quattro pezzi sacri'. With the composition of the 'Quattro pezzi sacri' in the last years of his life Verdi thus returned to his church musician origins. Already at the age of 10 Verdi performed the duties of organist in his home congregation and later in Busseto where he received his first music lessons. Themasses at the collegiate church in Busseto formed some of his most important musical impressions. During the time Verdi composed 'Falstaff' his last opera he was once again composing sacred music this time in a conscious encounter with historical models such as Palestrina and Bach.

cis-Moll- The Messe solennelle op. 16 for mixed choir and two organs by Louis Vierne was composed in 1899. At its world premiere in St. Sulpice in December 1901 Charles-Marie Widor played the main organ and Vierne the choir organ. The work belongs to the highlights of the late Romantic organ masses and more-over is comfortable for the choir to sing. The present edition is based upon the first edition that was published in 1900 by Pérégally & Fils in Paris. Due to practical reasons a performance with two organs is often not possible therefore parallel to the original edition the publishers have also published an arrangement for choir and one organ by ZsigmondSzathmary. ZWV 108- This is the Vocal Score for Jan Dismas Zelenka's 'Magnificat in D'. The Bohemian composer Jan Dismas Zelenka was a Double Bass player and church music composer at the Saxon court of the Elector August the Strong and his son Friedrich August II. In the years after 1721 he composed an extensive repertoire of Catholic church music together with the Kapellmeister Johann David Heinichen. These works together with the Dresden operas composed by Johann Adolf Hasse in quick succession from 1731 onwards established the reputation of the Saxon court as one of the most important musical centers of the late Baroque period. The two Magnificat settings (C major ZWV 107; D major ZWV108) are amongst well over 30 psalm and Magnificat settings by Zelenka for Vespers services in Dresden. In contrast to the work in C major where a soprano solo dominates over long passages the choir has a more prominent part in this Magnificat in D major. Zelenka also heightened the festive character of the work by later adding parts for 2 Trumpets and Timpani. Authentic performances of the work are therefore possible with and without Trumpets.

Klavierauszug-The Gloria in D Major RV 589 is Vivaldi's most famous sacred work and it is among his most important church music compositions. An independent work in one movement it was probably composed between 1713 and 1717 for the Ospedale della Pietà one of the orphanages of Venice in which young girls received a thorough musical training. The musically representative work is divided into 12 sections which differ in scoring movement type key and expressed emotions.

Krönungsmesse-Mozart’s Missa in C K. 317 erroneously dubbed the “Coronation Mass ” is among the most popular and most often performed works in this genre. The autograph of the Mass which in many respects is very enlightening was regarded as having been lost following the end of World War II but was discovered at the end of the 1970s it is preserved among the musical treasures contained in the Biblioteka Jagiellonska in Krakow. Ulrich Leisinger the editor prepared the edition based upon what is without a doubt the only authentic source although additionally in the Critical Report he has also consulted an early copy of the Mass (by Fugerl) since such later copies often helpto clarify questions concerning historical performance practice.
