This rousing jubilant overture mixes five original themes with the well-known doxology Old Hundredth which is also known as Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow . The hymn is presented in short lyrical energetic motif fragments which combine until the complete hymn is presented in the form of a chorale prelude. A Scottish Hymn is a chorale arrangement of a hymn composed by Charles Hutcheson a Scottish merchant and amateur composer who lived from 1792 to 1860. This hymn was given the title “Stracathro ” a typical Scottish name after a town in the district Angus. The melody is used with various hymn texts in the Scottish church.

As the title suggests Brian Connery’s energetic three-part overture for a festive occasion will show off your band in several contrasting sections. With its cheerful melodies fast and lively tempos and festive character it is great for a concert or festival opener.
