for Fanfare Band Bagpipes and Drums-This impressive work was composed for the Dutch-Friesian city of Leeuwarden which was considered the ‘cultural capital’ of Europe 2018; the composer spent his college years in this city. This festive work for bagpipes drums and fanfare band is based on the melody of the anthem of the province of Friesland. Proud was written for the music event Grutsk which is the Friesian word for proud – hence the title. Various bands have performed on five different stages across the town centre. The finale was performed in a concert held at Wilhelminaplein (Wilhelmina Square) which opened with this work. This world premiere was conducted by the composer himself. The bagpipes areoptional but advisable. As a whole they give the composition a very special sound. Three Famous Movie Melodies-Ennio Morricone is one of the most legendary film music composers of all time. Robert van Beringen has arranged three of Morricone’s best-known themes – ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ ‘Gabriel’s Oboe’ and ‘Cinema Paradiso – Love Theme’ – in a 5-part flexible arrangement that enables any band to get acquainted with this incredible music.

Westfort Ouverture was called after the Dutch village Westervoort that is situated near Arnhem. It is an opening work of many contrasts and completely built on one main motive: G-C-D-E-F#-D-E.

This work reminiscent of a film score describes the history of the Dutch town Horn. A broad lyrical theme played by the horns depicts the history of this town on the river Meuse. A cheerful Allegro represents rural life around the town and its castle. Following this the horn theme returns and the music changes dramatically. A drum roll symbolises the times of war that the town and castle have known. The threatening music eventually develops once more into the hopeful horn theme a sign of reconstruction and the future.

Rolf Lovland the leader of the pop group Secret Garden is a successful songwriter in the world of pop music. With the romantic melody Nocturne his group convinced not only millions of fans but also the 1995 jury of the Eurovision song Contest that this song was a winner.

Don’t Cry for me Argentina is the best-known song from the 1976 musical Evita . It was sung by Eva Peron when she was addressing the crowds amassed in the square below her balcony. More recently it was a hit for Madonna who sang it in the 1996 film version of Evita . This arrangement for brass band retains the broad emotive melody of the original together with its intense emotion.

Contrasto Grosso est une suite dansante en trois mouvements de caractères et de styles variés.
