The piece opens with a lively graceful theme depicting the light and good-natured mood that characterizes the two children playing. The music then becomes more calm and romantic in the middle passage. The piece comes to a cheerful and youthful close with the extended restatement of the earlier thematic material. It has been arranged for beginner bands and can be played with a minimum of six players (+ percussion).

The composer Pascal Proust has many years’ experience as a musician and music teacher. His output includes several hundred compositions for the most diverse instrumentations. He wrote Little Hippo for euphonium players at the level of approximately one year’s study and paid special attention to an easy-to-follow attractive musical style. As a result Little Hippo is an ideal performance or competition work for young musicians.

Based on Die Forelle Op. 32 by Franz Schubert-The Austrian composer Franz Schubert wrote his famous song The Trout (D550) in 1817. This song reappeared as the basis of a set of variations for the fourth movement of the renowned Trout Quintet so-named as a reference to the title of the song. Robert van Beringen used the lively theme for The Trout Fantasy which he has written for a five-part clarinet ensemble.

Ce mouvement apaisé au charme captivant offre de nombreuses possibilités en termes de nuances et d’expression. La percussion intervient mais ne tient qu’un rôle modeste.Le thème de l’oratorio L’Enfance du Christ d’Hector Berlioz(1803-1869) est au centre du deuxième mouvement. Le thème est conçu comme une ode à la sainte Famille. Ce deuxième mouvement expressif et tendre possède un caractère intimiste.Le thème du troisième et dernier mouvement est extrait de l’Oratorio de Noël de Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921). Il s’agit d’une page bien connue le célèbre chœur final Tollite Hostias . La puissance et l’intensité donnent à ce finale le ton festif qui caractérise Noël.

Satoshi Yagisawa has lived in Ichikawa City Chiba Prefecture in Japan since he was in elementary school. Around Christmas time every year in Ichikawa City seven Chiba high school bands hold a joint concert. For the 20th anniversary the composer was asked to write a piece to be performed to close the concert. This piece was first performed in 2010 by Tadashi Yoshida conductor and close friend of Satoshi Yagisawa with a combined wind orchestra from Chiba Prefectural Kokubun High School Chiba Prefectural Ichikawa Nishi High School Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Mutsumi High School Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Akiyama High School Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Yakiri High School Chiba Prefectural Funabashi Nishi High School and Chiba Prefectural Shiroi High School. The title was chosen from suggestions submitted by participating students. Dream Cruise was chosen by Satomi Otsu a junior in Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Mutsumi High School Wind Orchestra. The composer skillfully scored this piece and created the chorus part so that all the hundreds of students could participate in the performance. This version has been revised so it can be played without the chorus part.

Following Malletino and Fun-4-All this work is the third in a series of compositions for five mallet instruments and five percussion instruments (including bongos and timpani). Malletino was written specifically for beginnerpercussion ensembles whereas the technical and musical level required for Sequenza Percussola is clearly higher. In short this work is a challenge for the ensemble-and a great pleasure for the audience.

Dreaming of love. This is the theme of the folksong on which the composition was based. Its characteristic melody inspired Jacob de Haan to this instrumental romance with a transparent structure consisting of an introduction the folk-melody a development of the theme the folk-melody accompanied by ornamental triplets followed by the final bars.

Sonata from die Bänkelsängerlieder-A cantastoria or Bänkelsänger – German for busker – was a travelling musician who made music in streets and squares together with his colleagues. Die Bänkelsängerlieder (buskers songs) originally stem from the seventeenth century. Robert van Beringen who is known for his attractive arrangements of classical melodies created a colourful transcription for wind band based on this characteristic music.
