Homage to Astor Piazzolla-A glorious tribute to Piazzolla for five bassoons and contra reflecting his wonderful dance rhythms and harmonies combined with aspects of an 18th century chaconne. ' Chacontango is an original work my tribute to the great Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla. It reflects his wonderful dance rhythms and harmonies combining these with aspects of an 18th-centuryChaconne - a theme and variations over a repeated descending bass line though this particular chaconne' is not in the traditional 3/4 time. This version of Chacontango - scored for five Bassoonsand Contrabassoon - offers the option of either the entire piece played as a solo (1st Bassoon) with the other players accompanying or as shared solos between those of the five Bassoonists who would like to play solos! If anyBassoonist does not wish to play a solo your solo part is cued into the 1st bassoon part and you can play the tutti' part at that point. The original version (for solo with pre-recorded Bassoon ensemblebacking) was written in 2015 and was one of the items in my solo programme with video Bassoon Voyager'. This toured extensively around the UK in the Autumn 2015 bassoon project including performances at the RoyalCollege of Music in London the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester Bristol University and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow.' - Laurence Perkins

A proud and majestic Fanfare in C major for 6 horns 2 trombones bass trombone and tuba. This Fanfare for 6 Horns 2 Trombones bass Trombone and Tuba was composed in Oslo Norway in 2011. It is composed with a rather proud and majestic interpretation in mind. In the last bar for 1st & 2nd Horn the 2ndHorn should play the upper voice if the 1st Horn does so. If the 1st Horn decides to play the 2nd voice (ossia) then the 2nd Horn should do so as well. If parts are being doubled then it would be preferred if both ossia partsare played.

“I wrote Rhapsody in 2000 but it remained unperformed and so I gave a copy to John Orford the bassoonist and Professor at the Royal Academy of Music. Some years later to my surprise and delight he contacted me to ask if it could be the set piecefor The Florence Woodbridge Prize. On the morning of Monday the 27th June 2016 I went to The Academy where I heard a succession of fine performances the winner of the prize was David Bennett.” - Gordon Carr Gordon Carr was born in Matlock Derbyshire in 1943. An idiomatic and accessible work giving the performer ample opportunity for generous and expressive playing within a proudly English musical landscape. I first learned of the Horn Trio ' by Johannes Brahms while still a student at Dartington College of Arts and it had a profound effect on me when I heard it performed by Alan Civil Hugh Bean and David Parkhouse at a concert in Plymouth in 1967. As a novice Horn player and composer I dreamt of being able to join Lennox Berkeley and the many other composers inspired by these luscious musical sonorities andthis work of great genius by Brahms. Now in my late sixties I feel ready to tackle this project and I am delighted that the piece has now been published. The writing is I hope idiomatic and accessible giving the performer ampleopportunity for generous and expressive playing within a proudly English musical landscape. Within these four movements I have tried to create a work of beauty reflecting something of the world about us with a dash of firereserved for the final rondo. - John Frith

These Six Little Tuba Pieces were written in late 1977 and early 1978 at the request of a talented student Emma Parkinson then aged 15. She had rightly complained that having made the effort and achieved her Grade 5(with distinction in less than a year from taking up the instrument) there was little else available that was worth playing either in terms of development or enjoyment. Here we see an exquisite response to that complaintwith these are six contrasting pieces written for Tuba and Piano by Gordon Jacob. Two tuba solo parts are included one notated in the treble clef and the other notated in the bass clef. Set as part of the ABRSM Grade 6Tuba Syllabus.
