No. 4 for piano in Tchaikovsky's own arrangement-These little lyrical and sumptuous gem is based on the piano piece of the same name in C sharp minor No. 4 of Six Pieces Op. 19. The arrangement was probably written in Paris in 1888 for his friend the Russian cellist Anatoly Brandukov.The current edition is based on the edition from the volume of the old Tchaikovsky Complete Edition published by Victor L. Kubacky (1891-1970) a pupil of Brandukov.

At the world premiere of Chamber Music No. 1 the audience even demanded a repetition of the third and fourth movements. But the title is misleading: The individual pieces actually have concertante soloistic features instead of submitting to chamber music traditions. And so Chamber Music No. 3 is written for violoncello obbligato and 10 solo instruments.The score is based on Vol. VI/1 (PHA 401) of the Hindemith Complete Edition edited by Giselher Schubert.

Concert piece for piano and orchestra-On her 34th birthday Clara Schumann received from her husband not only a grand piano but also the latest music material including the one-movement Concert-Allegro with Introduction Op. 134 as well as the composition Introduction and Allegro appassionato Op. 92 which also consisted of only one movement. With both works Schumann continued the renewal of the solo concerto genre initiated by him.The editions are based on Vol. I/2/2 (RSA 1007-20) of the Robert Schumann Complete Edition.

Even if Schumann falls back on the hymnbook when choosing the text of his 'Adventlied' (Advent Song) the composition probably was politically motivated and still under the impressions of the revolutionary years of 1848/49 owed to the longing for peace. The 'Adventlied' (Advent Song) like the 'Neujahrslied' (New Year's Song) is 'a strange mixed genre between sociable covertly political and religious chant'.
