In 1986 Queen performed a spectacular concert at London's Wembley Stadium that was broadcast across the world. Fresh from stealing the show at Live Aid the band were on their greatest form performing anthems such as We Are The Champions alongside a quirky Hello Mary Lou and the delicate Love Of My Life . Benjamin Britten composed his Occasional Overture Op.38 for the opening of the BBC Third Programme on 29th September 1946 when it was performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sir Adrian Boult. It was not heard again until 1982 when the composer's Executors decided that it should be revived. Lyonesse was commissioned by the Brass Band Heritage Trust as the test piece for the Finals of the National Youth Brass Band Championships held in Manchester in April 2005. Robert Simpson’s Symphony No.9 is a powerful experience. There is mystery and a sense of concentrated intensity here carried in a single monumental movement driven by one basic pulse. Simpson composed this work for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and it was first performed by them conducted by Vernon Handkley at Poole in Dorset On 8 April 1987.
