Music for Japan is a terrific and rousing composition for orchestra by Peter Sculthorpe written in 1970. The slow yet significant meandering timbre and accent work towards to a middle section for amplified percussion strongly rhythmic and develops into an exciting and inspiring character. Then beautiful swirling effects add to the final chordal structure with its exultant layers of orchestral sound. This is the complete score for Full Orchestra.

Peter Sculthorpe's programme note reads as follows 'Lullaby is based upon one of the number of indigenous Australian melodies collected by Dr H.C. Lethbridge during the 1930s and is a lullaby for children victimised by war. It opens with several statements of indigenous melody the words lovingly entreating children to embrace sleep as night falls. This is followed by a short central section that questions the need for war its text taken from another song in the Lethbridge collection. The melody then returns leading to a quiet coda suggesting the calmness of sleep and for many children the beauteousness of Paradise.' The piece is set for unaccompanied mixedvoices. The Faber Choral Signature Series introduces a wealth of new or recently written choral music to choirs in search of fresh repertoire. The series draws in a rich diversity of living composers and includes both lighter and more challenging contemporary works offering a thrilling array of varied styles.

Bill Zakariasen of the New York Daily News says 'The program included one bona fide masterpiece written in 1967 by Peter Sculthorpe. . .Sun Music III (Nos. I II and IV are equally imposing) could have been written only in Australia. The sounds of the Far East - notably the Balinese gamelan - are juxtaposed with wild string harmonics and incredibly subtle use of percussion while long-breathed themes of utmost desolation place us square in the middle of the Outback.' 25 January 1987
