With a melody by Rolf Lovland Brendan Graham was struggling to find a lyric and a theme that was sensitive enough for Rolf's gorgeous tune. Brendan's daughter was leaving home for a year's study in Sydney her first time away from home for such a spell. The night before she left Brendan sat on the side of her bed like he had done so many times when she was a child telling stories and singing her little songs. The results are this beautiful lullaby for an older child. Desmond Earley has made the choral arrangement.

Rudyard Kipling lost his son in a war. Here is a composition written for a classmate who was killed in a car accident. The sense of loss in Kipling's words reflect on loss yet offer hope. The imagery of the sea and the feeling of searching inform the composition in ways unexplainable and yet obvious with an opening clarinet statement that is mournful and the ongoing harmonic language from the choir that is unsettled and shifting. Eugene Rogers Choral Series-Commissioned by Jerry Blackstone for the University of Michigan Chamber Choir Sunset captures the image-rich poem by Paul Lawrence Dunbar. Dunbar's poem captures the familiar and solemn atmosphere that we call dusk or end of day while composer Knaggs evokes a bit of the mystery and nostalgia into the cosmic wonders that become visible during and after the setting of the sun.
