from the Northeast of Ireland-This unique collection celebrates the contemporary fiddle music of northeast Ireland much of it for the first time in print. Not surprisingly given its location and long history of traditional music the fiddle music of this region shares some characteristics with Scottish music yet it has its own distinct style. For those who are not familiar with this ruggedly attractive part of Ireland this book will introduce you to some of its music and musicians. The tunes presented here collected by County Antrim fiddler Rowan Leslie have all been written relatively recently by local musicians. Each tune is offered in two versions—one with the barebones melody and suggested accompaniment chords and a second with ornamentation articulation and bowing details. All tune types from northeast Ireland are represented including jigs and reels polkas and hornpipes marches barn dances and waltzes plus set dances and slow airs. Moreover the biographical sketches and backstories provided for each composer and tune demonstrate how the land itself along with personal experiences and relationships influence the fiddle music of northeast Ireland.

Frederic Chopin was one of the most original and influential composers in history. Although he only lived 39 years he wrote music that has thoroughly embedded itself in our culture. His melodies are often instantly familiar to us and show a profound lyric sense. Many qualities of Chopin's music are ideal for guitar transcription. He wrote pieces that are short with a manageable range. The textures are mostly single melody lines with harmonic accompaniment without the complex counterpoint that can be so difficult on the guitar. His music is often soft intimate subtle and full of naunces of articulation dynamics and phrasing. These qualities transfer quite naturally to the guitar. While remaining as faithful as possible to the composer's musical intentions these pieces experienced some modification that is noted in the provided performance notes. Intermediate in difficulty this book assumes the player has basic knowledge of the guitar and familiarity with either standard music notation or guitar tablature. Selections include: Prelude Op. 28 No. 7 - Prelude Op. 28 No. 20 - Prelude Op. 28 No. 4 - Cantabile; Mazurka Op. 6 No. 2 - Prelude Op. 28 No 15 - Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 - Nocturne Op. 15 No. 3 - Nocturne Op. 37 No 1 and Nocturne Op. 55 No. 1. All of these beautiful pieces are included on the companion audio. Access to audio available online.

In this unique collection multi-instrumentalist Rob MacKillop presents 30 airs and dances from Scotland Ireland and England transcribed for the modern guitar in open-D tuning (DADF AD). Although conceived for fingerstyle playing most of these traditional Classical and Baroque pieces are also playable with a pick.During the mid to late 18th century a wire-strung instrument which could be described as a cross between a guitar and a cittern appeared in Britain. With the exception of the publications in Edinburgh by Robert Bremmer (c. 1713 – 89) most period writings refer to this instrument as the guittar. In providing extensive historical and performance notes onthis music the author has adopted this spelling. While derived principally from the publications by Scottish guittarists Robert Bremmer and James Oswald (1710 – 69) MacKillop discovered additional Scottish publications and manuscripts in The National Library of Scotland and even more manuscripts in the uncatalogued library of Blair Castle in Perthshire Scotland.Written in standard notation and tablature this book brings a particularly uncommon repertoire to light with an exceptional downloadable recording. Includes access to online audio.

A collection of 28 Ernesto Nazareth compositions expertly transcribed for classic guitar solo. One of the major difficulties in trying to arrange Ernesto Nazareth's themes for any instrument but the piano is to separate the melodic line from its accompaniment: both are so closely together (that is one of the strongest characteristics of his pianistic style of composition) that it becomes almost impossible to treat one of the features disregarding the other. If one did that the result would be only a pale and incomplete portrait of what was intended by the composer. That thought has guided us in the making of this book.In spite of the huge obstacles that resulted from the transposition of a piece originally written for the piano - a very rich instrument regarding the expressive recourses - to the more modest guitar we always kept in mind our principal intention: to preserve at the most all the melodic dialogues of the scores in special the ones between the melody and the bass line both the elements that form the soul of Nazareth's compositions. We obviously had to do some changes. Thus for instance in some arrangements it was necessary to transpose the original key to a more appropriate one (at the guitar view-point of course). Some phrases or fragments had also to be written an octave higher or lower (that can be perfectly understandable if we consider the very wide melodic range of the piano and the extensive way with which Nazareth uses it). Needless to say that all those recourses were used only when it has been strictly necessary. Despite the fact that those 28 pieces are only a little portion of Nazareth's work this group of arrangements represents a good and representative panel. Among them there are some of Nazareth's greatest hits (Apanhei-te Cavaquinho Odeon Brejeiro Ameno Reseda etc.) as well as other not so known compositions- but no less beautiful and important. Listening to those pieces one can observe the compositional talent of Nazareth and his incredible harmonic melodic and - especially - rhythmic versatility. Each of them has its own and unmistakable personality. The most part of the scores of this book - as well as in Nazarethian repertoire - is composed by tangos brasileiros (i.e. Brazilian tangos) but there are also some polcas and some of his most expressive valsas like Confidencias and Coracao que Sente.A collection of 28 Ernesto Nazareth compositions expertly transcribed for classic guitar solo. Bill Bay asked me to write a follow up book to my last book ”The Bluegrass Pickers Tune Book (20233). If you like Bluegrass music (232 songs) I'd recommend getting that book to add to your collection. The focus of this book The Acoustic Source Book is on roots and old-time music. The book is focused on the time period from late 1800's until 1940's. There are a few songs from The Bluegrass Book that were too important to be left out. I decided not to use any patriotic and Christmas songs and came up with a list of about 400 songs which eventually was cut down to over 200. During the late 1800's and early 1900's there was an important evolution in American music; the birth ofjazz ragtime and blues. This was also the period of the phonograph and early commercial recordings. Music from the Minstrel period as well as traditional songs were used as staple for the roots musicians. In the early 1900's there were rags blues gospel Tin-Pan Alley jug band spiritual old-time country and popular songs. I've tried to include some of the well-known songs from every genre to give you a big slice of Americana. There are some great songs that are popular roots bluegrass and old-time songs today that have never been published. There are also great songs that are not well known that should be played and enjoyed. Bill Bay asked me to write a follow up book to my last book ”The Bluegrass Pickers Tune Book (20233).'
