From Handel's Occasional Oratorio comes this stately classical anthem. A great anthem of power and praise it works equally well in concert or church.

In the 1870s Novello released a series entitled Cheap Musical Classics which contained over one hundred spurious masses. This selection was lifted from that series and was previously attributed to Haydn's ThirteenthMass. However of Haydn's authenticated fourteen masses this selection cannot be found and in fact the thirteenth mass is entitled the Creation Mass in Bb (not to be confused with the Creation Oratorio ). Editor and professor Allen Crowell has brought us another Renaissance work thisone by Jacob Handl. For five-part male choir it has its demanding qualities but the reward is there.

The Sara Teasdale poem is expertly set to a delicate melody composed by veteran writer Donna Gartman Schultz. Schultz's writing for two part treble voices does ample justice to the text which will make it a concert favorite for years to come.

Alabado is one of several hymns that originated at or in close proximity to the Santa Barbara Mission during the middle and late 18th century. Composer scholar and USC professor Nick Strimple has provided a simpleand effective setting for use in worship or as a processional in concert. The original Spanish and an English translation are provided as well as some alternative texts for various seasons.
