Hilarion Eslava (1807-1878) was a Spanish priest musician and pedagogue. Although he was a prolific and well-known composer in his own time today he is primarily remembered for his 1846 work Metodo De Solfeo a successful Solfège Method which has been in constant use all over the world for more than 150 years. Having been a choirboy at Pamplona the method was published while Eslava was choirmaster at the Royal Chapel in Madrid and he undoubtedly used it as he was training the choristers there. Enrique Granados (1867-1916) was a Spanish composer and pianist who studied in Barcelona and Paris and whose life was tragically cut short by the First World War. The nationalist style which dominated his early output is often seen to be epitomised by the 1890 work 12 Danza Española a collection of Spanish dances originally for the solo Piano. Andaluza is No. 5 from 12 Danza Española and has been transcribed here for Cello with Piano accompaniment. This high quality edition comes in a marbled cover and would be a perfect gift for any cellist interested in Spanish music.

Benet Casablancas ' Haikus for solo Piano. Widely regarded as one of the leading Spanish composers of his generation Casablancas studied in Vienna at the Academy of Music and in Barcelona at the Universidad Autònoma from which he graduated with a degree in philosophy before gaining a PhD in musicology. His music firmly rooted in the great modernist tradition is notable for its great individuality structural complexity and extraordinary richness of textural detail. In the 1990s he became more concerned with harmony timbral differentiation and instrumental virtuosism. Critics highlight his concern for balancing constructional rigour and expressive strength lyricism dramatic character and whimsical register. Benet Casablancas ' works are performed regularly around Europe Canada US Japan and Latin America. His first opera L´Enigma Di Lea was commissioned by Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona for its 2017 season. In 2013 he was appointed first composer in residence for the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and L´Auditori and was awarded with the most prestigious composition prize in Spain the National Music Prize granted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Rodrigo's music is among the most popular music of the 20th century in particular his Concierto de Aranjuez is considered one of the pinnacles of Spanish music and of the Guitar concerto repertoire. Although distinguished by having raised the Spanish Guitar to dignity as a universal concert instrument and best known for his Guitar music the blind composernever mastered the instrument himself. Eduardo Sainz de la Maza was both a successful guitarist and important composer. Although well known for his arrangements of Spanish folk songs it is his original works which are seen as most significant today. His musical language is described as eclectic combining impressionistic influences with Spanish musical traditions. Jazz was also an influence although much of his music is described as intimate and lyrical as depicted by Platero y yo Suite one of the most notable compositions for the guitar of the 20th Century within this unique collection of works.
