Pavana – Capricho is one of the last pieces from Isaac Albeniz ’s early period before he turned to Spanish influences – a style that would characterise the rest of his compositions. In this earlier period Albeniz who was a child prodigy on the Piano composed ‘salon style’ music and experimented with traditional styles in the manner of Rameau Bach Beethoven Chopin and Liszt. His shift towards Spanish music occurred after meeting the teacher and composer Felipe Pedrell a leading figure in the development of nationalist Spanish music. Pavana-Capricho is graceful and light-hearted at the same time. The playfulness that arises from the alternating moods is best achievedwhen the proper technique and articulation is applied. Arranged for Violin and Piano and with a performance time of ca. 3:30 this piece of Romantic chamber-music is a perfect addition to any concert programme. The two-act zarzuela Marina was premiered on September 21 1855 at Madrid's Teatro Circo. Despite a cool initial reception many musicians could sense its popular potential. The classic La Paloma Habanera which was the source material for Bizet's Habanera from Carmen . Born on January 20 1809 in Lanciego in the province of Álava. His publisher in Paris urged him to universalize his name from Iradier to Yradier. He is known primarily for his habaneras especially the one titled La Paloma written around 1860 after a visit to Cuba. La Paloma was extremely popular in both Spain and America (especially Mexico) where it was responsible for the great popularity achieved by the habanera. Another of Iradier's compositions is El Arreglito an habanera used by Georges Bizet in his opera Carmen.Bizet thinking it was a folk song took the melody of El Arreglito and created what is known today as the Habanera from Carmen: the song L'amour est un oiseau rebelle
