Couperin 's Concert Pieces for Cello and String Quartet accompaniment is an exciting addition to the string repertoire for its slightly unusual instrumentation. François Couperin (1668-1733) is often nicknamed 'Couperin the Great' to distinguish him from other members of the musical family. Concert Pieces is made up of five movements; 1) Prelude 2) Sicilienne 3) The Trumpet 4) The Complaint and 5) Devil's Air. Couperin 's moods are expressed through choices of keys adventurous harmonies and discords. A new edition of this catchy minimalist piece composed in 1989 and now firmly established in the repertoire of leading performers such as Thomas Trotter John Scott and David Sanger. There have been four CD recordings to date. Ad Wammes (born 1953) studied composition with Ton de Leeuw Theo Loevendie and Klaas de Vries piano with Edith Lateiner-Grosz and electronic music with Ton Bruynèl. He played keyboard with the symphonic rock group Finch and is an established composer for television and for the stage. Miroir (Mirror) was first composed in 1989 for Stephen Taylor upon his appointment at the Nicolaïkerk in Utrecht. This catchy piece is written in a minimalist style with the right hand playing the same pattern in every bar while the left hand and pedal add extra detail and little wisps of melody. The shimmering textures create a hypnotic effect like dancing rays or light reflected in the glass. This is the revised edition first published in 2007. Ad Wammes (b. 1953) is a Dutch composer and pianist. He is best known for his electronic music and compositions for Organ many of which have received international acclaim.

for Piano- This edition contains five of Erwin Schulhoff 's jazz-inspired Piano cycles with a total of thirty-five pieces ranging from the relatively easy Esquisses de jazz (1927) to the fairly demanding Cinq études de jazz (1926). This is the first Urtext edition of this music and draws on the original prints comparing them with the surviving handwritten sources. Errors have been corrected and distinctive traits of Schulhoff ’s notation retained. Erwin Schulhoff was a German-speaking composer who was born in Prague in 1894 and died in the Nazi concentration camp in Wülzburg (Bavaria) in 1942. In the 1920s he returnedto his native Prague to teach at the local conservatory. His compositions with their blend of traditional genres jazz syncopations dance rhythms and moderately expanded tonality were fully attuned to the tenor of the times. La sirène vient de retentir les pompiers décalent. Nous les suivons en mission de nuit. Rapidement la situation se révèle dramatique le tempo s’accélère et les sonorités dissonantes se multiplient. Le jeu des percussions et des instruments graves est marqué tandis que les lignes mélodiques offrent une certaine fluidité. Les contrastes recherchés sont réussis les contours descriptifs palpitants !

‘Biberussa’ the old name of the small town of Beverst in Belgium is a combination of the words ‘biber’ and ‘ussa’ meaning beaver and river. This concert march was composed for the 100th anniversary of the Koninklijke Harmonie (Royal Concert Band) ‘Ons Verlangen’ from Beverst a place where the composer had his first musical training. After the opening passage a proud heroic theme is heard. As a contrast it is followed by a simple chorale melody and both themes then appear simultaneously in a grand tutti passage. This is followed by a cantabile trio with a majestic reprise of the main theme bringing the work to a close.

Score and parts to this mock serenade for brass instruments and percussion. One can only imagine the wild reverberations that echoed throughout the Metropolitan Museum of Art as Bernstein's Shivaree was played to commemorate its Centenary!

Rare is the drummer who is both influwntial and essential to a genre but Billy Cobham is just that in regards to jazz and consequently to music in general. He's performed with Miles Davis - displaying his ambidextrous drumming on classic recordings. This play-along package features selections from Spectrum where the individual instrument tracks are remixed so that the musician/student can play along in essence filling in for any key member of the London Jazz Orchestra with whom this project was recorded. The experience is one that Cobham describes as 'accessible yet challenging'.

This song is of course one of the most famous ballads of all time. The pure simplicity of the melody is precisely what makes this number so unforgettable. Ben Haemhouts has made an arrangement that can be played by every orchestra and every soloist and by different instruments. The arranger also played this gem himself on the I've Got the Music CD with the band that he played with for 10 years.
