The rather static character of the first part is built up of only 1 bar which consists of a sequence of two extended triads above a pedal note (B-flat). The main motive derived from these triads is introduced by the horns giving a threatening initial atmosphere. This is abruptly taken over by the clarinet and the oboe after which violence erupts.In contrast to the mysterious character of the first section the second part shows a more resigned atmosphere with long drawn out phrases. These are constantly interupted by references to the initial material and develop into a dramatic climax. The main motif reappears for a final time on the trumpet which under theinfluence of the second theme takes on a more resigned character as it gradually fades into silence.

Born in 1929 French composer Pierick Houdy was a student of Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatoire. He led a successful career as director of many institutions and choirs and his compositions remain known to this day Sonata For Harp being no exception. C.V. Stanford's fame stems mainly from his contribution to Anglican church music. An organist at Trinity Church in Cambridge these unaccompanied motets were in the nature of a farewell gift being dedicated to his successor and the choir of the church. The two outer motets are quiet and contemplative in style contrasting with the energetic middle piece. These three fine church pieces are each between about three minutes long. Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665-1729) was born into an important family of musicians in Paris. Comprising four Suites de La Guerre exemplified in her compositions her own skills on the Harpsichord. Each of the Suites begin with a Prelude Allemande two Courantes Sarabande and a Gigue. The following movements include a Cannaris Chaconne Gavott and Menuet. Pieces for Harpsichord is essential to the repertoire of aspiring players of the instrument.

The magnificent concert march Aurum (lat. gold) was written on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the cunductor of the municipal band of Wolfach in Baden-Württemberg Germany. The march begins with a light and playful theme. The following lyrical trio provides a contrast with its nod to Edward Elgar. After a number of key changes the introductory theme returns in canon. Finally the music heads to a majestic finale inwhich the trio theme is played as a splendid baroque chorale.
