It is intended that these transcriptions serve as a teaching aid: helping in study of form phrasing style and other aspects of making music. In addition they may also be utilized for the purpose of performance. It should be noted that some register adjustments have been instituted to better suit the range limitations of the clarinet. I have tried my best to be as faithful as possible to Bach's original compositions striving for consistency and continuity of line. All editorial markings (trills dynamics articulations etc.) are solely the editors and are of course open to interpretation. The Lark is Mily Balakirev's arrangement for piano solo of the song of the same name by Mikhail Glinka also known as 'A Farewell to St. Petersburg'. It retains much of the lyricism of the original but combines it with the pianistic brilliance which makes it into a solo work.

Score and Parts-Taking this familiar holiday melody Michael Brown has created an impressive arrangement for young players. Opening with the simple melody stated in flutes and vibes the setting then blossoms with full and rich orchestrations building brass lines and creative harmonies. After the emotional peak the piece winds down to a quiet and effective ending. Nicely done.
