for the Left Hand for Piano and Orchestra- In 1929 Paul Wittgenstein a pianist and war veteran who lost his right arm in the Great War commissioned Maurice Ravel to write a concerto for him to perform. The result was one of Ravel ’s most thrilling compositions and for Wittgenstein the most important of the many works he commissioned over the course of his career. This scholarly-critical edition of Ravel ’s Piano Concerto For The Left Hand is based on previously inaccessible and unknown sources. The editor Douglas Woodfull-Harris was able to consult manuscripts in the private library of the Paul Wittgenstein Estate which allowed him to retrace the work’s evolutionfrom Ravel ’s autograph working copy to the first printed edition. A source of key importance to our new edition is a handwritten French copy of Ravel ’s own Piano reduction (the autograph is inaccessible) that he gave to Wittgenstein to facilitate rehearsing the work. This copy is the sole source reflecting Wittgenstein’s own interpretation and containing his changes to the final cadenza. It also helps us to understand omissions in the first edition of the score as well as the Piano reduction and enabled the editor amongst other things to correct a great many notes which could be found in previous editions including the solo Piano part. The Piano reduction in our edition contains both Ravel ’s and Wittgenstein’s fingering. Also included is a solo part without fingering thereby giving pianists the opportunity to enter their own fingering after having studied those of Ravel and Wittgenstein. Score and orchestral parts in large format (25.5 x 32.5 cm) Includes source descriptions and a Critical Commentary with alternative readings (Eng) Informative Introduction on the work’s history and genesis (Ger/Eng/Fr) With facsimile pages Piano reduction with separate Urtext solo part enclosed Full score & parts (BA7881) and two-Piano reduction (BA7881-90) available for sale

Liszt's Twenty-one Short Piano Pieces have been published as part of ABRSM's 'Signature' Series - a series of authoritative performing editions of standard keyboard works prepared from original sources by leading scholars. Includes informative introductions and performance notes. Since most of Liszt’s vast output of piano music both original and arranged was obviously intended for the virtuoso it's easy to forget that he also wrote short and beautiful pieces which are technically undemanding. Moreover many of these are far more interesting musically than the typically brilliant works. By way of introducing this less familiar side of a great keyboard composer this edition offers twenty-one non-virtuoso pieces that he wrote between the ages of 38 and 74. They are arranged roughly in chronological order and prepared from original sources by leading scholars including informative introductions and performance notes. This book comprisescollections of pieces which include: Consolations Six Pieces S.172; Vier Kleine Klavierstucke (Four Short Piano Pieces) S.192; and Funf Ungarische Volkslieder (Five Hungarian Folksongs) S.245.

Kapustin likes to give his works formal titles but these can be deceptive. The nature of the music within is far from traditional and his Toccatina op. 36 is no exception. Written in 1983 it is a succinct and dizzying piece that may remind you of jazz and rock improvisation but its construction and musical style are outside these boundaries. Here is a complete albeit only three-minute work the first in our Kapustin publishing programme and an instant winner with performances and audiences alike.

Paso Bella is full of the typical fiery and melodic characteristics of the paso doble. The hot Spanish temperament can be heard from the opening themes in the minor key as is usual in a paso doble to the last bars of the trio. The trio is followed by an exuberant closing which will reverberate in the ears of both musicians and audience for a long time.

In this work I gave everything I had to give. […] What I did here I will never do again. Camille Saint-Saëns was justifiably proud of his Symphony No.3 in C minor Op.78 dedicated to the memory of Franz Liszt. Like Beethoven's Ninth this so-called Organ Symphony was commissioned by the Philharmonic Society in London where it received its premiere on 19 May 1886. In this first scholarly-critical edition of the symphony a great many inconsistencies and mistakes inherent in the previously used edition have been unveiled and corrected. The edition of Symphony No.3 marksthe launch of a large-scale project: the publication of Camille Saint-Saëns - Complete Edition of the Instrumental Works. This performing Urtext edition is based on volume BA 10303 from that series. First scholarly-critical edition of this famous symphony based on Camille Saint-Saëns - Complete Edition of the Instrumental Works Now with separate parts for all winds Orchestral parts in a large format (25.5 cm x 32.5 cm)
