Organ or Mixed Choir or Orchestra- Unlike Handel ’s other Organ concertos HWV 292 is not a transcription of a work for a different solo instrument but was conceived from the outset as part of the oratorio Athalia. Its fourth movement leads seamlessly into a Hallelujah chorus that was only later replaced by an Adagio ending for publication purposes. Thanks to the relative simplicity of the chorus our volume makes a useful addition to the material already published for this concerto (BA 8344). The pure excitement of space exploration and discovery are proclaimed in the moving work for young band. We follow the progress of the astronauts from their launch through a tranquil space walk and back into our atmosphere for a dramatic ending stopping for a brief saxophone solo on the way. Edited for the first time based on the autograph. The only wind instrument for which Felix Mendelssohn wrote any solo works is the Clarinet. This Sonata written by a young Mendelssohn is genuine chamber music: the Clarinet and Piano are both used equally as a melody and an accompaniment instrument. The various playing characteristics of the Clarinet are not fully exploited; instead Mendelssohn focuses more on the cantabile character of the instrument.
