20 Small Etudes- Italian flautist and composer Giuseppe Gariboldi (1833-1905) moved to Paris after his studies where he worked as a virtuoso Flute player and prolific composer. Being exceedingly talented Gariboldi 's compositions range from operettas to studies including his ever-popular teaching aid Vingt Petites études for Flute . Covering a huge spectrum of Flute techniques studies in Vingt Petites études address articulation dynamics note values single and double tonguing breath control range vibrato and ornamentation among other things. Contemporary Japanese composer Yuko Uebayashi moved to Paris in 1998. Uebayashi 's works have been met with much success in both Japan and France Suite For Flute And Cello being no exception. Flautist Jean Ferrandis described Uebayashi 's music as 'gems that although they are so different they yet belong to the same world a world of vivacity dreams tenderness humour and one that is subtly contradicted by vehemence virtuosity melancholy and sorrow.' Initially part of the 'Second Book Of Pieces For The Viol' by Marin Marais this work contains 32 verses and requires advanced skills and technique (rapid rhythms accidentals). It is based on The Follies Of Spain in terms of tune theme and rhythms and this edition also includes the parts for the Flute alone. Marin Marais (1656-1728) was a French composer and master of the Viol. He wrote many pieces for the Viol some triopieces and some orchestras. Jean-Claude Veihlan is a French musician and woodwind professor who recorded numerous pieces from famous composers. He transcribed many pieces that he adapted for the Recorder.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart 's (1756-1791) Flute Concerto in D is an adaptation of the original Oboe Concerto in C which the composer reworked in 1778. The Concerto remains widely studied and performed on both instruments making it one of the more important Concerti in the woodwind repertoire. Concerto in D is in three movements; 1. Allegro aperto 2. Adagio non troppo and 3. Rondo: Allegretto. The first and last movements are in the tonic key whilst the second movement is in the subdominant key of G major. All three movements contain a cadenza which initially would have been left forthe performer to improvise. However cadenzas have since been written including those of Johannes Donjon (1839-1912). Donjon was a prominent flautist of his time and his understanding of Mozart 's Flute Concerto in D is second to none making his cadenzas well-informed and essential to performers of the concerto.

Cellist conductor composer and musicologist René Berthelot (1903-1999) was influential in leading the Orleans Conservatory to obtain a high profile reputation. His Variations Brèves for Horn and Piano contribute to a significant catalogue of compositions by the composer. Published in 1973 a typical performance of Pastoral And Rustic Dance lasts around four minutes. Characteristics include complex rhythms variation in time signatures and much contrast between the variations. Suitable to advanced Horn players Berthelot 's VariationsBrèves is suitable to advanced Horn players providing an exciting alternative performance work.
