This concerto is part of the original soundtrack of Dien Bien Phu (1992) by Pierre Schoendoerffer. It is used in the film for a scene which represents the loss of Dien Bien Phu: a concert is going to happen and while the music starts some sporadic images of the battle are shown. The concert finishes with the audience applauding and the next scene shows some soldiers having their last drink knowing the battle is already lost. The concerto goes through different phases to express what is seen through the images alternating melancholy desperation desolation and the feeling of lost power.

Written in 1803 by Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) this Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major is a classical piece of the Trumpet repertoire. Composed in the spirit of Mozart and initially for the keyed-Trumpet it was re-discovered in 1958 by a Yale student after 150 years of inertia due to the obsolescence of the instrument for which it was made. This edition offers a transposition in E-flat Major (initially in E Major) adapted to the instruments in use today. The other instruments to be involved in this concerto are a Flute two Oboes two Clarinets two Bassoons two Horns Timpani and Strings. Hummel's Trumpet Concerto begins with an orchestra onlyfirst movement in a sonata theme which is repeated with the inclusion of the soloist. This Allegro Spirito sounds reminiscent of the Haffner Symphony (No. 35 in D Major) by Mozart but distinguished itself by a second theme. The second movement Andante is more melodic with the trumpet which holds long notes. Finally the Rondo offers a blissful and bright end to the Concerto. Former student of Mozart Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) was a brilliant composer pianist conductor and teacher. Evolving at the same period as Beethoveen he became as famous as him and wrote numerous concertos (for Piano Oboe Trumpet Violin and others) operas and some wind music pieces.

Jindrich Feld 's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano is frequently performed by virtuoso Saxophonists. Composed in 1989-90 the Sonata is elaborate and quirky and successfully exploits many extended techniques on the instrument. Born in Prague Feld (1925-2007) studied Violin and Viola with his parents before studying at the Conservatory and Academy of Music of his native city. His compositions predominantly instrumental soon became popular being performed all over the world. As reflected in his Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano Feld 's style is deeply rooted in the Czechmusical tradition but he also integrated the main styles of 20th century Western music. The Sonata is made up of four movements 1. Allegro ritmico 2. Adagio/Bells of liberty 3. Allegro vivo/Scherzo and 4. Allegro con fuoco. Each movement of the Sonata presents different challenges from fast staccato semiquaver flourishes to the lyrical slurred passages. This Feld piece is highly virtuosic yet an excellent and enjoyable performance for all advanced saxophonists.

German baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist becoming a composer against his family's wishes. However his musical career saw him hold important positions and to this day he remains a major composer. His sublime Concerto is superbly arranged here for Horn Quartet Trumpet Quartet or Clarinet Quartet by Robert King . King 's arrangement of the Concerto for Horn Trumpet or Clarinet Quartet includes all three movements; 1) Adagio and Allegro 2) Grave and 3) Allegro. For all Horn Trumpet and Clarinet Quartets King 's rearrangement of Telemann 's popular Concerto makes works by the popular composer more accessible and versatile.
