Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother into his compositions. Composed for an unusual instrumentation of Brass Ensemble Timpani and Drums Fanfares Liturgiques comprises four movements; 1) Annunciation 2) Gospel 3) Apocalypse and 4) Good Friday Procession. This Tomasi piece is suitable to advanced players and provides an exciting alternative addition to the ensemble repertoire.

Internationally acclaimed French composer Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) followed the music traditions of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy yet implemented his own distinctive style. His Sarabande et Cortege for Bassoon and Piano displays influences of Debussy 's eschewing of tonality and Ravel 's inventive textures. These combined with Dutilleux 's unique uses of structure and pedal points create a truly riveting piece for Bassoon and Piano. Sarabande et Cortege comes at the beginning of Dutilleux 's career and was composed as part of a set of fourexam pieces for the Paris Conservatoire (1942-1950). Yet the popularity of all four pieces remains and they continue to be performed to this day. Elements like lyrical melodies and furious semiquaver passages make for an exciting piece for bassoonists.

Quartet by Pierre Max Dubois is a piece for four Saxophones also known as Concertino initially composed for four Saxophones and a String Orchestra. This Quartet is divided into four distinct movements : 1. Ouverture Brillante 2. Dolorospo 3. Spirituoso 4. Andante Pierre Max Dubois (1930-1995) is a French composer who was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1955. Mainly composing classical music hisworks are mainly for woodwinds. He is one of the founder of Les Six which included his professor Darius Milhaud.

As the title suggests this Sonatine interprets musical elements of sport. With this in mind Tcherepnine 's Sonatine is a highly amusing energetic and fun piece to play for saxophonists. Russian born composer Alexandre Tcherepnine (1899-1977) moved to Paris with his family in 1921 following the increasingly hostile political environment in Russia. During WWII Tcherepnine 's composing activities virtually stopped. However just before doing so he composed his Sonatine Sportive . The first movement interprets boxers with pulsating quavers in the piano partrepresenting a defence. Movement two suggests a rest that the two players take before the 'racing' third movement written in the form of a canon. With such stimulating and imaginative creativity Tcherepnine 's Sonatine is essential to the saxophonist's repertoire.

French composer Pierre Max Dubois (1930-1995) significantly contributed to the woodwind repertoire particularly for Saxophone. Divertissement for Alto Saxophone was published in 1953 and remains popular in advanced saxophonists' repertoire. Dubois' music is characteristically light-hearted with unusual harmonic and melodic textures. 'Divertissement' for Alto Saxophone and Piano reduction is made up of three movements; 1) Allegro vivo 2) Lent et doux and 3) Scherzando. Essential to the advanced saxophonists' repertoire Dubois' 'Divertissement' makes for an exciting and enjoyable performance for players andaudiences alike.

Having studied the Flute with virtuosos Paul Taffanel Adolphe Hennebains and Philippe Gaubert at the Paris Conservatoire Marcel Moyse (1889-1984) soon became a virtuoso of the instrument himself. His editions of Soussmann's 24 Daily Studies for Flute is one of many popular study books compiled by the renowned flautist. During his career Moyse frequently played solo Flute with many orchestras including performing the main concertos of the repertory. As well as performing and composing Moyse was responsible for the training of a brilliant generation of flautists at the Paris Conservatoire. Following WWI thecomposer moved to the United States where he continued to perform compose and teach. It is during his time in the USA that Moyse composed his extensive number of instructive books on instrumental technique including Soussmann's 24 Daily Studies which today remain universally accepted and popular. Moyse 's book is essential to all aspiring advanced flautists.
