Score- Jota is from my ballet 'Suite Espagnole' which was first produced on October 6 1970 at the Gran Teatro del Liceo Opera House of Barcelona. The choreography was by Jose de Udaeta with sets by Riera Rojas and Trabal Altes. The ballet was performed by The Harkness Ballet of New York and was commissioned by the Rebekah Harkness Foundation. I have written this present version to provide for the enjoyment of the Concert Band buffs' . - Carlos Surinach

Score-Born in New York City on 11 December 1908 Elliott Carter began to be seriously interested in music in high school and was encouraged at that time by Charles Ives. He attended Harvard University where he studied with Walter Piston and later went to Paris where for three years he studied with Nadia Boulanger. Score- Wallingford Riegger 's New Dance composed 1935 was originally the third section of Trilogy a large dance piece commissioned by Doris Humphrey for the renowned Humphrey-Weidman Dance Company. Parts I and II were entitled 'Theatre Piece' (later designated Op.19) and 'With My Red Fires' (Op.20). The title Sinfonia Chica is derived from the derogatory label 'genero chico' which was first given to Spanish folk musicby the Italian musicians and their Spanish adherents who dominated all art music in Spain during the first half of the 18th century. The work represents a fusion of the traditional rhythms and melodic patterns of the Spanishtonadillas (early zarzuelas) and the stylistic characteristics of 20th century harmony structure and instrumentation.
