from the Belgian drama TV series Katarakt-Katarakt is a 13-part fictional series about a young woman Elisabeth who sets out to save her in-laws’ floundering fruit farming business at all costs. She dedicates herself to this with ruthless ambition even though a serious eye complaint makes the task increasingly difficult for her. Elisabeth gradually discovers her past and comes to a few surprising realisations. The series is set against the background of fruit farming in the Hesbaye region and follows the rhythm of the four seasons. Juri Briat arranged this beautiful music by Steve Willaert for concertband and fanfare.

Aurora Borealis more popularly known as the Northern Lights was a source of superstition in the Middle Ages. This dazzling spectacle which is accompanied by whispering sounds put the fear of God into those who didn’t know that this was simply one of nature’s grand shows. Many heathen attributed the phenomenon to the incomprehensible ways of the gods. Today we know better. Every 11 years the amount of particles emitted by the sun is at its highest level as is the case this year. These particles are hurled away from the sun beyond its magnetic field. A small percentage of these particles are able to penetrate the earth’s atmosphere. Once they are here they begin tocollide and form the beautiful patterns in the night sky which we call the Aurora Borealis.

Its success can undoubtedly be attributed in part to the excellent soundtrack. Erik Mast has made a wonderful arrangement of the soundtrack which has become a masterpiece in its own right.

Helmut Lotti’s popularity began many years ago with his Elvis imitations. In the meantime he has become internationally renowned and sold millions of CDs. At the moment he is probably the most well known Flemish artist of all time. Filip Sandras has composed a medley of songs from one of his shows. These are ‘La Adelita’ ‘Suspicious Minds’ ‘Sten’ka Rasin’ and ‘House of the Rising Sun’.

Filip Sandras has made a stylish medley of hits from the 1970s.

Camille Saint-Saëns is especially known for his composition ‘Carnaval des Animaux’ and his organ symhony. ‘Marche Militaire’ however is an almost unknown but remarkable masterpiece. An excellent work arranged by Georges Moreau.

Sven Van Calster composed this work after he visited this city in the Czech Republic. A solemn fanfare is followed by a brilliant allegro with a heavy beat. A slow section in ballade style precedes a reprise of the introduction and then an extravagant finale follows. This is an ideal piece for a concert or a competition.

This great number by the young artist Sven Van Calster was composed for the Antwerp-based trumpet band Blazerensemble - Deurne (B) especially for the recording of their CD.This refreshing and fairly simple but dynamic music was written for several instruments and can therefore be played by practically any formation.
