Adventure in the Sky- Flight is a programmatic work that is divided into six short segments each describing a different aspect of a young pilot’s experience in the sky. The motor can be heard starting up. The plane finally takes off and an exciting musical journey gets underway. Breath-taking views scary turbulence and finally a full-fledged storm are all part of the view from above. Fortunately all goes well. Special musical effects such as the sound of the propeller add a sense of realism to this Flight.

The originally Russian word ‘Maslenitsa’ carries different meanings depending on the religious background and context. But it always refers to a celebration! One plausible interpretation is the winter solstice a feast that’s celebrated deep into the night. Here a doll that symbolises the winter is burned. Sven Van Calster’s Maslenitsa will fan the flames at your concert!

De los Zapatos Rotos-‘El batallón de los zapatos rotos’ literally means ‘the regiment of the wornout shoes’. This composition is a sort of hybrid between the typically Spanish paso doble and a Belgian hunters’ march. The title is a metaphor for fighting for a just cause even without the necessary means. An original variation on the standard paso doble!

This short but brilliant work was written to honour the crowning of the Spanish queen. The elegant march of this piece depicts how the queen arrives slowly. The queen is subsequently crowned and this can be heard in the heavy chords of the brass instruments. The spectacular ending of this work is the proverbial cherry on the cake of this ceremony.

As performed by J. Geils Band-The ´J. Geils Band´ from Massachusetts in the USA played blues-rock in the 1970s but by the beginning of the 1980s had evolved their sound to a somewhat more pop style. And not without success: the album Freeze Frame sold by the million! The eponymous song Freeze Frame was the second single release from the album and has become an absolute favourite with audiences everywhere.

March of the Molenberg-This joyful festive march by the Belgian composer Sven Van Calster was written specially for young ensembles looking for a challenge. In Festiva all instrument groups are featured but the parts include sufficient doublings to cover any missing players. In a balanced concert programme a march is of course an absolute must!

The Corrs are a well-known contemporary Irish band. They take Irish folk tunes and dress them up with pop rock and Celtic influences. They also use a mix of contemporary and traditional instruments to create interesting sounds. Lough Erin Shore is one of their biggest hits to date and can become one of yours as well!

This composition was inspired by the adventure novel Treasure Island by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. The music does not recount the tale verbatim but rather sketches particular events and moods in scenes.

Reiner Lüghausen composed this march in the early Seventies and it has never before been published. He gave the work this title because he actually comes from the valley of the same name in Germany. The most important sources of inspiration were the typical American military marches the undertones of which you will certainly recognise.

What’s the perfect way to start the day? Stef Minnebo tries to answer this age-old question musically with his Rise and Shine . This three-movement composition for a fourpart flexible instrumentation begins with Snooze in honour of the most treasured feature of the alarm clock. Then we have The Shower a refreshing number and finally the lively Breakfast Groove . No chance of a sleep in!

One of the biggest hits of WetWetWet has been arranged in an excellent way by George Moreau. ‘Love is all around’ will certainly please the young audience.

from the motion picture Forest Gump-This delightful theme is inextricably bound up with the fantastic acting talent of Tom Hanks who gave a convincing performance of the figure Forrest Gump in the film of the same name. The scene of him sitting on a bench and watching a white feather fluttering down is one of the most poignant moments of the film and this has been expertly captured in this arrangement.

Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) is most known for his Morgenstimmung and his piano concerts. This bundle Lyriske stykker op. 38 was originally written for piano solo and contains 5 short parts in different styles.

This myth depicts humanity’s path and is taken from a golden age of the past. It describes the destruction of the Great Flood to the re-building of life on earth. Out of Earth was created as a commission for the Aulos Concert Band and was premiered by the band in October 2015. It is a very challenging piece of music which is perfect for contests or high-end concerts. This melodic hymn begins with a lyrical melody handled by various instrument groups. After a gradual build a first climax is reached in which the brass instruments give full vent to their glorious sound in jubilation. Now we hear a second theme resounding in the euphoniums which ushers in a moment of rest. Then the excitement gathers again building to a great tutti. The main theme is taken up once more sounding now as a kind of universal gratitude.

The absolute top slow number of the Eighties sung by Roberta Flack. She is not perhaps so well known among younger people but she has her place in history as one of the absolute divas of the world. Back into time the interlude in your concerts.

Three Easy Dances for Band-The three castles city walls and the old town of Bellinzona together form one of the Swiss World Heritage Sites on the UNESCO List. Unlike similar fortifications the castles of Bellinzona are almost completely preserved in their original condition. As the title of this work suggests the three movements of Bellinzona Castles are based on the three castles which are briefly described as follows:The Bellinzona castles are grouped around the Castelgrande —known as St. Michael’s Castle—which stands on a rock looking out over the valley of the Ticino river. The castle was built in the 10th century and has two distinctive towers: one white and oneblack. The strong castle walls that embrace the entire old city run out from here.The second castle Montebello is built as part of the defensive wall. The heart of the castle dates from the late 13th century but it was expanded between the mid-14th century and the end of the 15th century.The third castle Sasso Corbaro stands on a rock southeast of the fortifications. The castle which was built at the end of the 15th century stands apart from the rest of the fortress.

In addition to 4 piano concertos Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943) also wrote some symphonies. The clarinet solo from the adagio in his second symphony opus 27 is probably one of the most beautiful melodies from this period.

Motown is much more than a record company. From its humble beginnings in 1959 it has become a sound a style a whole movement. Founder Berry Gordy Jr. had no idea what lay ahead over the following decades as he began producing records with the likes of The Jackson 5 Marvin Gaye Diana Ross Stevie Wonder Lionel Richie and many others. Motown Story is a tribute to the unique Motown-sound and contains optional parts for piano/keyboard and the electric or bass guitar. This medley features: ABC (The Jackson 5) Stop in the Name of Love (The Supremes) I Heard It through the Grapevine (Marvin Gaye) and Dancing in the Street (Martha Reeves & The Vandellas).
