For this work the composer found inspiration in the magnificent orchestral ballads of pop stars such as Marco Borsato Celine Dion and Laura Fabian. The instrumentation permits the moving melodies of Ballata Per Te to be played by nearly every orchestra. A selection of minor and major scales are used.

Ekato which is Greek for 100 was commissioned by the Royal Brass band �De Strijders� from the town of Oosterwijk-Werstelo (Belgium) on the occasion of their 100th anniversary in 2006. The piece was composed during the composer�s visit to the island of Kos (the island where Hippocrates lived) in Greece.The beginning of the work depicts the calmness of the countryside and the pleasant bustle of the port. The slow passage paints the wonderful landscapes and the beaches and is followed by a festive finale in which the composer depicts the Castle of the Knights of St John.

Jan Cober is famed worldwide as a conductor for wind orchestras of renown. He also produces transcriptions for carefully selected works from the classical repertoire. The Russian composer Vasily Sergeyevich Kalinnikov (1866-1901) has never enjoyed great fame probably due to his short life. Jan Cober discovered this work through intensive research and his transcription has given it a second life on the concert stage.

For this impressive opening work by Menno Bosgra the composer uses a kind of brass band theme which is alternated with a solemn chorale. Both themes are orchestrated differently and each instrumental group takes turns playing. This makes the piece extremely colourful. At the end both themes are combined with each other. This is a dynamic opening work for your concerts!

Ramses Shaffy was the child of a Polish-Russian mother and an Israeli father. He grew up in Amsterdam where he also studied. He became very famous as a singer actor and cabaret artist mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands. This is his song Go On Forever a translation of the Dutch version We zullen doorgaan which was a massive hit in 1977.

Bert Appermont composed the music for the first ever open-air musical the Seed of Satan which was shown for the first time in August 2002 in Kruibeke Belgium. This gigantic spectacle which evolves around witchcraft at the beginning of the 17th century attracted more than 10 000 spectators in just a few weeks. Bert Appermont subsequently arranged a suite of the highlights from the musical which he has called Saga Candida .

This world hit became famous through Joe Cocker’s interpretation of it. Juri Briat has turned it into a trombone solo.

as performed by Johnny Cash-‘Sjaloom Chaverim’: With this Jewish-inspired traditional song you can give your Christmas concert a universal character. It is possible to have a two-voice choir sing but this piece also works well without vocals and should be on every Christmas programme.

Gustav Mahler is probably one of the most important composers of late Romanticism. His symphonies are emotional extravaganzas of hectic near neurotic movements on the one hand and extremely beautiful melodies and wonderful choral music on the other hand. This Adagio from his 6th symphony which has been arranged in a majestic way by Georges Moreau is a perfect example.

Jericho is the musical translation of the well-known story from the book of Joshua about the capture of the city of Jericho by the Israelites.Part 1 depicts the cruel journey through the desert to Canaan the promised land. An emotional lamentation for the yearning for a home for the end of a roaming existence.The capture of Jericho is the theme of part 2. The city cannot be captured immediately and Jehovah orders an impressive army to march around the city for six days. On the seventh day they marched around the city seven times and the priests blew their trumpets and the people cried so loud that the walls of Jericho came tumbling down. The Jews stormed the city and drove theinhabitants away. The music clearly reveals the marching army and you can hear the walls falling down with a tremendous noise. However there is quite some artistic freedom in the actual story.A majestic and grand melody subsequently evokes the triumphant emotions that emerged as the fortified city fell (part 3).Following a personal and romantic interpretation the scene ultimately ends in a typical Jewish feast (part 4) whereby the virtuosity of melodies played by the woodwinds and the passionate rhythms refer to traditional Jewish music. All themes are repeated in this last part in various forms often simultaneous and in duelling counterpoint. The piece ends with fragments from the main theme of part 1 in major: peace and quiet return at last.
