Melodrama in 3 Akten- Igor Stravinsky's Persephone is a Melodrama in three parts. Arranged for female narrator tenor solo mixed choir children's choir and orchestra. Persephone of her own free will descends to the Underworld in compassion for the hapless Shades there to become Pluto's wife. Springtime accompanies her ascent back to terrestrial life and a second marriage - to Triptolemus the first farmer. According to the cycle of the seasons thus established she will in due course return to the Underworld.

In this concert setting the voices are used as a means to create a meditative dwelling for prayer. The low voices drone (using nasal resonance) to symbolize a sense of eternity suspended. The isolated duet figures in the higher voices color the text bringing certain verses to the foreground. All voices climax in extended adoration and work harmonically to create the sensation of suspended awe. The closing moment sreturn to a meditative prayer-like state yet suggest that something has transformed since the beginning of the piece or perhaps that the piece was only a continuation.Francisco J. Cantata Mundi-Cantata mundi is a development of ideas first heard in Songs of Sanctuary where the world of ethnic influenced (both in vocal sound and percussion) are combined with established Western European classical technique to present a unified work.Vocally the spread of influence is wider than in Songs of Sanctuary with Eastern European and Arabic sounds added to the African Celtic and ecclesiastical blend. Once again the text is written phonetically with the words viewed as instrumental sound. In Cantata mundi the sound is more symphonic with woodwind and brass added to the strings percussion and recorder.
