Moroccan Fantasy was originally two pieces I wrote in the 1980s Shiraz and Gentle Dreams. Then in 1999 'star pupil' saxophonist Simon Haram wanted a new piece so I wrote Moroccan Fantasy based on the earlier pieces extending the harmonies of Gentle Dreams and giving Shiraz more of a Reggae feel. Young Scottish saxophonist Rowan Hawitt then heard Simon's recording and wanted me to make piano and sax reduction so here is Moroccan Fantasy in various arrangements for solo wind instrument and piano. All the pedal dynamic and tempo markings are suggestions only. All my music can be played in many different ways-the main thing is to make it your own and express yourself. Enjoy! Dave Heath Based on the earlier piece 'Shiraz and Gentle Dreams' extending the harmonies of Gentle Dreams and giving Shiraz more of a Reggae feel.

On the day she was born in 2000 Heath was walking over the meadows in Edinburgh to see her and could hear bagpipes playing in the distance. That inspired him to write this piece. The melody and over-all style are influenced by Scottish traditional music however the harmonies come from modern jazz.

Gottlieb And Rhapsody Of The Spheres are two works for solo Organ. Gottlieb was first performed in 2000 by Simon Neiminski at St Mary's Cathedral Edinburgh. Rhythmically there is a strong influence of Rave music and harmonically I turned the blues upside down often using minor triads in the left hand with major triads in the right hand. Gottlieb is dedicated to Sydney Gottlieb. 'Rhapsody of the Spheres: Reading something John Coltrane said on his album 'A Love Supreme' that 'all vibrations lead to God' got me thinking maybe music is the best form of describing what is going on at an atomic and subatomic level: that the great composersand musicians take you to Heaven rather than try to describe it in words. With that in mind I wrote this piece-a prayer to the Moon and the Stars-where I wanted by using the most majestic instrument of all the organ to describe the beauty of existence. This is a one movement piece – slow-fast-slow – and is dedicated to my eldest son Sean.' David Heath
