A haunting setting of four elegies from the writing of George Mackay Brown composed by Peter Maxwell Davies. Completed in 1998 this powerful and unsettling work is based upon four short verses that explore the more sinister tragic and even supernatural qualities of the oceans and tides. Composed for soloists mixed chorus and Orchestra the work was commissioned by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The work wasfirst performed in December 1998 at Queen's Hall Edinburgh conducted by the composer. The vocal score is available using product code CH61504.

Work for Flute Piano and String Trio. Quoting Karen Tanaka: The title Invisible Curve suggests flexibly curved space-time in four dimensions. The curve occurs because of weight and energy of the space-time. Myintention was to create a beautiful projection of an image of the invisible curve into the soundspace.

Composer's Notes : The last few years I have become increasingly involved in some peculiar mathematical formulas called 'fractals'. These formulas used in the fast growing field of 'Chaos theory' are relatively simple but they generate fascinating and surprisingly 'organic' patterns when shown graphically on a computer screen or played as music. One should think that such a mathematical approach would lead to sterile and 'theoretical'music. The sound world of Stonewave however is not one you would associate with math books. The steady insistent pulse and the use of sequences put squarely up against each other or divided by long rests suggest aninvisible ritual. A ritual for what? Well then let it be a ritual for the exorcism of some 'evil spirits' which now ride our part of the world under the name of Liberalism making people the servants of the Market Forcesinstead of vice versa. Stonewave is therefore an incantation as it seems that only divine forces can save European culture from a political system that proclaims the Jungle Law as the guiding principle in social andcultural life. For Violin Cello Vibraphone and Piano.This work was composed in memoriam Fred Hutchins Hodder who died between Christmas and New Year 2001. A violinist and gifted mathematician 20-year-old Hodder had been atPembroke College Cambridge and the title derives from the pleasure he used to get when finding unexpected connections between seemingly unconnected things. For piano trio and vibraphone the work was written for Hodder’s parents Monroe and Fred .

Irish composer Kevin Volans' work has gained international acclaim over the years. Drawing on a combination of European and African compositional techniques his music displays a unique charm. Volans' distinctive sound is heavilyin demand and since the mid-1980s his work has been performed regularly at such venues as the Pompidou Centre the Royal Albert Hall and the Lincoln Center in New York. This work for string quartet was commissioned by theShobana Jeyasingh Dance Company and was first performed on the 16th December 1990 at the Almeida Theatre London by the Smith Quartet. Set of parts. This was originally written for soprano counter tenor and baritone soloists and chamber orchestra. This version scored for soprano counter tenor and piano was composed in 1997 for a concert given by Deborah York MichaelChance and Julius Drake at the Wigmore Hall.

This revised and updated collection of 18 popular tunes provides additional teaching repertoire to complement the first books in the Making the Grade series. As with the previous books the pieces have been carefully arrangedand graded and the collection is made up of well-known material which pupils will enjoy.
