These are the instrumental parts for John Tavener 's To A Child Dancing In The Wind for Soprano Flute/Alto Flute Viola and Harp. To A Child Dancing In The Wind was commissioned by the Little Missenden Festival and first performed on 16th October 1983 at Little Missenden Parish Church. John Tavener is well-known for his extensive catalogue of religious music but occasionally he was drawn to less overtly sacred sources. The “frailty tenderness and spiritual transparency of Yeats’ poetry” inspired this song-cyclefrom 1983 for Soprano Flute Harp and Viola. Tavener held Yeats in high regard and was to return to his poems in later works such as Mini Song-Cycle for Gina (1984) A Nativity (1985) and Supernatural Songs (2003). Rhapsody in F Sharp was commissioned by the BBC Proms and first performed in the Royal Albert Hall on August 19th 1943. Written for solo Piano with Orchestra accompaniment it has been arranged here for twoPianos. Written with the wartime audience in mind it is unashamedly popular in style with a flashy virtuosity making it immediately accessible and entertaining. There is argument among scholars as to whether it should bereferred to in the Major or Minor key as it makes almost equal use of both starting in one and finishing in the other. Ernest J Moeran (1894-1950) was an English composer who followed the tradition of R. VaughanWilliams and John Ireland by collecting preserving and using many folk songs mainly from Norfolk Suffolk and Ireland.

This overture is the opening of the 146th Church Cantata . It is scored for full string orchestra with organ obbligato and is the original form of the first movement of the later and better known Piano Concerto in Dminor . In 1918-19 Gian Francesco Malipiero wrote a collection of seven songs commonly known as Sette Canzoni . They were initially intended as a stand-alone work but became incredibly popular when they wereincluded as the second act of the composer’s opera L’Orfiede . However in recent years the collection has come to be recognised in its own right as one of the composer’s masterpieces. Like all of the seven songs the fifth Serenata is designed as an individual mini-opera. Scored for a solo Tenor with Piano accompaniment it tells the story of a young lover serenading his beloved. At the same time unknown to him shesits inside lamenting the death of a relative. Serenata has been translated from the original Italian into French by Henry Prunières and into English by Edwin Evans.
