Towards the Future was commissioned by the Nagoya City Fire Bureau for the 50th anniversary of the Nagoya City Fire Bureau Band (Nagoya Japan). It was premiered by the band on 7 February 2009 conducted by Masuo Nakamura. This concert march was conceived to lift up the spirits of the firemen who save people’s lives. The solemn and heart-warming melodies express their braveness when faced with danger and the tenderness shown towards the people they protect.It is an ideal march to open a concert and to inspire both performers and audience.

In this work the composer portrays what he sees as the typical characteristics of youth his young daughter being a source of inspiration. The music describes different emotions between parents and their child such as parental love proudness andalso some tension. The final movement starts with a fugue based on the first theme leading to the work’s climax where the chorale appears in majestic form.

With Emperor French composer Thierry Deleruyelle wanted to create a descriptive musical work depicting the life of Napoleon Bonaparte. The first movement represents the idiosyncrasies of this famous personality as well as his dramatic mood swings. The second movement is dedicated to his great love Josephine Beauharnais. A contrasting third movement depicts Napoleon the fearless general and the countless battles he waged. A truly powerful work about one of histories truly powerful men.

This concert work the latest of Jacob de Haan works based on American states is a suite in three movements based on a well-known folk tune from Arkansas. In the course of this varied work the folk song appears in its complete form and in fragments in major and in minor as a ballad in a lyrical orchestration as a blues accompanied by a jazzy rhythm and at the end again in its pure form. In the process all instrumental groups of the brass band get their chance to shine!

A mirage is an illusion something without substance that does not really exist. Although not real its unattainable nature is perfect for musical inspiration. Composer Jacob de Haan was strolling through a picturesque forest of the Dutch Gelderland when he thought he saw a body of water. While there was no water its mere image created waves that can be relived in De Haan’s original composition Mirage.

This opening piece who’s title is a mixture of the words ‘psalm’ and ‘Intrada’ is both festive as well as solemn. It was based upon the music of Psalm 149.

Les Anges dans nos campagnes-The title of this clever arrangement reveals the Christmas song it is based on. The melody can be traced back to a French folksong from the 18th century which is now known around the world. In France it is called Les anges dans nos campagnes in Germany it is most widely known as Engel auf den Feldern singen and in England it was originally called Angels From the Realms of Glory but it often known as Angels We Have Heard on High . Everyone will rejoice upon hearing the ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo’ refrain!

As performed by Queen-Brian May’s We Will Rock You was not Queen’s biggest hit when it first came out. However looking back it has become much more than simply a successful song. Opus 2 no. 1-Edward Elgar originally composed this work in 1887 as a Pie Jesu when he was an organist in the St George’s Church in Worcester. Years later in 1902 he transformed the Pie Jesu into an Ave Verum for soprano and tenor solo mixed choir and organ. This excellent arrangement by Robert van Beringen skilfully retains the wonderful atmosphere of the original composition.

Le Marais is a semi-programmatic composition by Christian Bouthier. It contains three movements each of which is based on a different aspect of the Parisian district of the same name. Le Marais is said to be one of the prettiest neighbourhoods in Paris where fashion culture food and architecture meet and mingle.

Le baião (baïon) - une danse chantée et jouée en rythme binaire - traversa l’Atlantique au début des années 1950. Cette composition de Roland Kernen est un véritable hymne nordestin.

Izumi Shibata commissioned the Ballad for Bass Trombone as a unique and thoughtful birthday present for her husband who happens to play this very instrument. Thanks to her gift bass trombone players around the world received a stunning addition to their repertoire. The ballad will be a welcomed challenge for every soloist and an interesting though not particularly demanding job for the accompanying ensemble.

Diptych- Diptyque is the French word for “diptych ” meaning a hinged two-part image. The first section of this two-part musical painting has an Oriental feel with characteristic pentatonic melody lines and chords. The second section is a cheerful Saltarello dance that brings out the subtleties of the woodwind section. A juxtaposition of Eastern and Western music Diptyque reminds listeners of the power of music in transcending all cultural religious and political boundaries.

L’incroyable facilité avec laquelle Rossini composait des mélodies reste stupéfiante. En plus de vingt ans de carrière il a écrit une quarantaine d’opéras dont les ouvertures telles que celle extraite de Guillaume Tell sont connues de tous. Jacob de Haan a réalisé un superbe remix du thème de cette ouverture en combinaison avec une deuxième ligne mélodique plutôt surprenante. Foppe Jacobi est l’auteur de ce bel arrangement pour Orchestre d’Accordéons.

Marsch der Tiere-Studying and performing this piece can be lots of fun. All the musicians have to do is imagine themselves on an energetic parade of animals like a circus train traveling through the country side. Live animal calls during the performance will make this piece entertaining for everyone participating!

Klaas van der Woude has based his arrangement An Old Swedish Hymn on an old pastoral hymn from Dalarna. This beautiful melody even attracted ABBA as they used it as the opening music for some of their concerts. Van der Woude’s arrangement is in classical style making it suitable for any occasion.
