Tango Tzigane - Jealousy-Jacob Gade's classic arranged for piano duet (four hands) by conductor Esther Bobrova Lange.FROM THE PREFACEIt is a common misconception that ”Tango Jalousie” (Tango Tsigane) was written for the movie ”Don Q”. The piece was also played at the movie premiere in Paladsteatret on September 14th 1925 but there was no jealousy-based drama in the movie. Nonetheless the melody was well suited to the Zorro legend in a Mexican setting. But in the book “Jacob Gade – et eventyr i musik” (a fairytale in music) by Jørgen Gram Christensen one learns that in a 1956 interview Jacob Gade recounted the incident in 1925 which concerned him very much: “One day the magazines featured a dramaticdescription of a jealousy-based murder and the word “jealousy” stood for me as a title with which the music became more and more attached.”There are many different arrangements of “Tango Jalousie” but I have always found that there was a need for a piano four hands version of this wonderful piece. In the process of working out a piano four hands version I used the full orchestra score and made sure that the most essential orchestra parts were included. Also the melody parts and accompaniment are equally distributed between the primo and secondo parts.Esther Bobrova Langeconductor Tango Jalousie (Tango Tzigane - Jealousy) - Jacob Gade's classic arranged for Piano Duet (four hands) by conductor Esther Bobrova Lange. Corpus Cum Figuris is a uniform composition in three major parts. The first part is a slow marche funébre a kind of prologue with dark and sombre sounds and a massive wall of chords which leads us to the other part of the works where the static and solemn atmosphere is suddenly stopped and replaced by a rhythmic/melodic ritual which accelerates the music. In the third part the block structure is softened gradually different figurations and stylistic elements arise to live their own lives: distant waltzes and pictures from the Middle Ages appear in this gigantic sonorous body. After a wild percussion orgy a short flash-back and a scream from the edge end Corpus cum Figuris. The piece has no literal content at all even though the title leads the thought to Adrian Leverkühn’s Apocalipsis cum Figuris from Thomas Mann’s Doctor Faustus. More likely my piece will arouse associations as with all my music. It has to be heard in it’s own conditions in this case as a big body of music or perhaps as a great screen where the details of course are part of the whole body but at the same time are foreign and odd. It is as if one climbs a mountain and from the top of that mountain discovers a world which is completely different from expected. Corpus cum Figuris for 20 musicians was composed in 1984 commissioned by Ensemble InterContemporain and the Danish Radio. Ensemble InterContemporain world premiered the work in April 1985 conducted by Peter Eötvös. The piece was also played at the ISCM-festival in Amsterdam by Netherland Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ernest Bour. Corpus Cum Figuris is a uniform composition in three major parts. Horace Parlan Song Book This book is based on an idea by the Danish tenor saxophonist Jesper Thilo and has been made possible by a grant from The Ben Webster Foundation in Copenhagen Transcription: Olivier Antunes. Photos: Kirsten Malone Horace Parlan - Born in 1931 the American jazz pianist Horace Parlan developed his own unique piano style as a result of his affliction with polio which partially paralysed his right hand. From 1957 Parlan was in high demand among the great jazz musicians and bandleaders of New York such as Charles Mingus Stanley Turrentine Booker Ervin andRoland Kirk. During this time he was also busy recording under his own leadership. In 1972 he relocated to Denmark where he became very active on the Danish jazz scene as well as in other European countries. This led to an array of collaborations with such musicians as Archie Shepp Jesper Lundgaard Benny Carter Jimmy Roger Pedersen Idrees Sulieman Christina von Bulow Ed Thigpen NHoP Alex Riel Johnny Griffin Jackie McLean Mads Vinding and Red Holloway. In 2000 Parlan received the prestigious Ben Webster Award.

Without Electronics-Fiasali Dreaming by Andy Pape is a piece for Mezzo-Soprano and Chamber Ensemble. Orig. version WITH electronics is available: KP01133 Programme Note: It is my intention that this piece should represent a dream sequence. The text is therefore non-intelligible in any semantic sense in the same way that most dreams are. It is also my ambition that the actual music is unintelligible (irrational) which is a very different matter alltogether. It could easíly be maintained that all music is irrational and therefore unintelligible. It is my hope that the text in connection with the four delays create a spacial musical unreality or distance which ceases at the very end of the piecewhere all delays and amplification stop and we again can wake up.
