While Oasis and Blur battled for superficial chart supremacy at the height of the 'Britpop' phenomenon Richard Ashcroft and The Verve set about creating some of the most poignant and touchingly personal songs of the decade. The Drugs Don't Work Lucky Man and many others became anthems for a disillusioned generation and paved the way for the likes of Coldplay Snow Patrol and Athlete with songs that bridge the gap between introspective ballad and dynamic stadium rock. This book and CD set contains eight songs specially selected from The Verve's biggest hits with full tablature transcriptions and a set of professionally-produced backing tracks that allowyou to take the place of Nick McCabe. Both lead and rhythm parts are provided where appropriate - all you have to do is learn the songs and jam along with the CD! You'll even find a full biography and discography charting the band's career and a guide to the McCabe's equipment and effects with hints to help you achieve an authentic Verve sound.

Holst's Symphony in F: The Cotswold Op.8 (H.47) was composed in 1899 and 1900 and given what was in all probability its only performance in 1902 by the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra conducted by Dan Godfrey (this was the first professional performance of any of Holst's orchestral works). The manuscript of the symphony is in the British Library. The music is uneven and only in the second movement 'Elegy' was Holst equal to his ambition: his feelings for Williams Moris whom he heard lecture and in whose London house he rehearsed the Hammersmith Socialist Choir inspired a heartfelt tribute. Morris died in 1896; he lived at Kelmscott Manor in Oxfordshire on the edge of theCotswolds from 1871 until his death.
