Born in Glasgow Hugh Roberton became a funeral director apart from being a conductor and composer. A highly motivated and self-taught choir-master he founded the Toynbee Musical Association in 1901 and five years later this became the Glasgow Orpheus Choir which gained a world-wide reputation and went on to perform under Roberton 's direction for some 45 years. He composed much for his choir with perhaps his most famous pieces being ' All In The April Evening ' and the 'Mingulay Boat Song'. He had a reputation for getting the very best from his singers who held him in such great esteem that when he resigned as their leader shortly beforehis death the choir agreed that they must disband. However the Orpheus rose again when many of its members re-formed as the Glasgow Phoenix Choir which continues to perform and tour to this day. Hugh Roberton was knighted in 1931. This version of ' All In The April Evening ' originally published under the catalogue number 61427 for unaccompanied mixed voice Choir of Sopranos Altos and men is now in a clearer newly typeset edition. Other versions are available for solo voice unison voices female voice choir male voice choir full mixed voice choir (SATB) with Welsh words and also in an arrangement for string Orchestra and a 'meditation' for Organ. George Butterworth was born in London on July 12th 1885 to a well-to-do family. Eton School was followed by university at Trinity College Oxford where he met Vaughan Williams and Cecil Sharp. He taught for a while at Radley studied for a short time at the Royal College of Music then concentrated more or less full time on collecting folk songs sometimes with Vaughan Williams. When the First World War started in 1914 he joined the Durham Light Infantry as a Lieutenant. In the trenches he was mentioned in dispatches for outstanding courage and won the Military Cross. He led a successful raid on August 15th 1916 in the Battle of the Somme but during the raid Butterworth was killed by a sniper's bullet. Much of his music is influenced by folk-song. The idyll ' Banks of Green Willow ' is one of his best works and perfectly captures the nature of the English countryside. It is almost as if the music occurred naturally and Butterworth just discovered it. This pack comprises one full score string parts 4/4/3/4/2 and any wind brass and percussion parts. Orchestration: 2 Flutes 2 Oboes 2 Clarinets in A or Bb 2 Bassoons2 Horns in F Trumpet in Bb Harp Strings (Violin 1 Violin 2 Viola Cello Double Bass)

Canadian composer Clifford Crawley 's 1990 song We Can Make a Difference for unison Voice and Piano accompaniment. Published as part of the Leslie Choral Series. Set on Grade 1 of the ABRSM Singing Exams from 2009. Affiliated with the Canadian League of Composers and the Canadian Music Centre Crawley has over eighty published compositions including a number in festival and conservatory lists. His musical style has been described as 'warmly human' 'contemporary (but) accessible and eclectic'. Eclecticism is consistent with his belief that 'originality is not necessarily something newbut often (the result of) looking at the familiar in a different way”.
