James Newton Howard composed this dynamic fanfare for the closing segment of the 1993 movie Grand Canyon (starring Danny Glover Kevin Kline and Steve Martin). The film is now largely forgotten however the music remains a vibrant and powerfulstatement and a very effective concert opener. Skillfully adapted by Paul Murtha with heroic brass figures woodwind flourishes and thundering percussion.

Fantasy on Themes by Beethoven-A powerful work for the symphonic band Ode To The Spirit Of Man is based on thematic material taken from the 4th movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and developed into a fantasy of kaleidoscopic nature. The opening is a joyfulexpression of the spirit of freedom and is based on the composer’s own themes derived from Beethoven’s music. Throughout the work various themes from the symphony are interwoven including Alla Marcia Scherzo Andante maestoso and finally theuplifting Ode to Joy .

All My Loving - Till There Was You - I Want to Hold Your Hand-Featuring songs performed by The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show television broadcast in 1964 and recorded on their first US album Meet the Beatles here is an exuberant medley for band that demonstrates the excitement and appeal of theseearly hits. for Solo Trumpet Winds and Percussion-The word nexus is defined as a tie or link between people and events. Nexus for solo trumpet and band includes several links between composer James Curnow and educator Alfred Watkins to whom the work is dedicated. A well-known theme (particularly to Mr. Watkins' students) is drawn upon as the piece utilizes two primary musical settings. An energetic and agile scherzo appears in the beginning and again at the end and is contrasted with an expressive Ballad theme. The soloist at the premiere (and on the recording) is Christopher Watkins Alfred's son! This is a well-crafted and rewarding work for soloist and band alike. Dur: 6:00
