Algemiz est un arrangement de la composition originale Aljama pour dulzaina et Orchestre d’Harmonie récompensée en 1999 du Deuxième Prix du Concours de Composition pour dulzaina et orchestre de la ville d’Algemesí en Espagne. La dulzaina est un instrument traditionnel à anche double.Algemesí (de l’arabe algemiz “village”) est une ville située sur les rives du fleuve Sucron au sud de Valence. Le thème principal de l’œuvre développe un motif dérivé du nom de cette ville. Ainsi on obtient une structure basée sur les notes La (Al) - Sol (Ge) - Mi (Me) - Si (Sí) présentées dans diverses combinaisons. Deux événements historiques liés à la villed’Algemesí constituent l’intrigue de cette œuvre : I. Batalla del Sucro (La bataille de Sucron) : Alors que la péninsule Ibérique est sous le joug romain une bataille sanglante a lieu entre les armées des généraux Pompée et Sertorius. Les troupes installent leur camp sur chaque rive du fleuve. Au coucher du soleil Sertorius place son armée en position de combat. Le ciel se couvre de nuages noirs et menaçants et l’orage est assourdissant. La bataille éclate quarante mille hommes s’affrontent. La moitié des soldats trouve la mort. Pompée bat en retraite alors que l’issue de la bataille est toujours incertaine. / II. Dansa dels conqueridors (“La danse des conquérants”) : Vaincu par les Maures d’Almenara Don Jaime I roi d’Aragon décide de partir en expédition pour le Sucron afin d’évaluer les forces de résistance arabes et si possible conquérir Algemesí. Accompagné de presque mille soldats le roi se met en route. Durant la nuit ils longent les côtes de la Méditerranée et installent plusieurs camps dans la contrée de Ribera-Baixa au nord du Sucron. Les conquérants exécutent leurs danses régulièrement interrompues par des attaques maures. Les troupes de Don Jaime I conquièrent Algemesí. Ils traversent ensuite le Vad-el-Xúcar (signifiant “rivière argentée” en arabe) et arrivent à Cotes un village situé au

Mvt. 1: Gaudí-The Great Spirit is a two part symphonic work that Ferrer Ferran dedicated to the famous Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi. Ferran depicts various stages of the life of this ingenious architect and master of round organic forms and shapes: from his humble beginnings to working on the Sagrada Familia which would turn into a life-long task. Mirroring Gaudi’s architecture the musical lines of Gaudi are fluid and organic the structure expansive rich in colour and spellbinding just like the buildings of the great Catalan architect.

Suite Descriptiva para Banda- Suite Sincrónica est une commande pour l’Orchestre d’Harmonie d’Alcoi (Societat Unió Musical d’Alcoi) dans la province d’Alicante (Espagne). Cette suite en trois mouvements - El Somni Compartit (“Partageons un rêve”) Elegía (Élégie) Cap al Centenari (“Cap sur le centenaire”) est basée sur plusieurs extraits d’œuvres classiques qui ont compté à un moment précis dans l’histoire de cette formation désormais centenaire : une œuvre de Georges Bizet l’ Ouverture Poète et Paysan de Franz von Suppé et deux marches mauresques signées José Maria Ferrero Pastor et José Albero Francés. Suite Sincrónica est un survol des dixdécennies de la riche histoire de l’orchestre : des moments de joie et de peine des succès et des échecs des instants magiques touchant l’âme où la musique devient passion passionnante et passionnée.

Algemesi is a town situated on the banks of the river Sucron in the south of Valencia in Spain. Algemiz by Ferrer Ferran was inspired by two historical events connected with the town. When the Iberian peninsula was under the rule of the Romans a bloody battle took place between the armies of the generals Pompey and Sertorius known as The Battle of Sucron. Much later in the 13th century Don Jaime 1 king of Aragon who had been defeated by the Maures d’Almenara decided to lead an expedition to Sucron to evaluate the resistance of the Arab forces and conquer Alegmesi. This story of this expedition is told in The Dance of the Conquerors.

A Biblical Tone Poem for Symphonic Band / Poema Bíblico Sinfónico-This tone poem for concert band is based on the Old Testament tale of Abraham who was ready unconditionally to make the greatest sacri_x001F_ce he could: that of his own son Isaac. In Ferrer Ferran’s starkly contrasting composition the emotions that this tale evokes come to the fore: the bliss of divine life and humanity as opposed to worry fear and self-sacri_x001F_fice.

pasodoble de Concierto- Luis “El Huiso” is a paso doble for the concert hall that is awash with powerful Spanish temperament and radiates with joy and energy. With its typical Spanish motifs the Spanish composer and conductor of the world-wide renowned Banda Primitiva de Paiporta of Valencia pays tribute to the president of this brass band who was instrumental in its success story.

El Bosque Mágico (La forêt magique) a été donné en création mondiale le 17 février 2002 au Palais de la Musique de Valence en Espagne par l’Orchestre d’Harmonie Municipal de Valence (Dir. : Pablo Sánchez Torella) et Jesús Fuster hautbois solo. / 1. Los Elfos (Les trolls) : issus des légendes scandinaves ces lutins mal intentionnés aiment jouer de mauvais tours à l’instar des trolls irlandais. Gardiens du trésor caché ces nains sont parfois représentés comme les assistants des magiciens et même du père Noël. / 2. Las Hadas (Les elfes) sont des figures mythiques des légendes et ballades scandinaves. Très petites par leur taille ces créatures ailéessont dotées de pouvoirs magiques. Les elfes bienfaiteurs sont des créatures protectrices proches des anges gardiens. Ce second mouvement s’inspire d’un film dans lequel une créature mécanique réussit à susciter des émotions et des sentiments puissants ; phénomène comparable à l’enchantement que les elfes communiquent aux humains : l’éveil de l’amour pour la vie. / 3. Los Gnomos (Les gnomes) : petits par leur taille (de 10 à 50 centimètres bien qu’il soit possible qu’il en existe de plus grands) les gnomes vivent vraisemblablement dans les bois où les lieux boisés. Ils possèdent des pouvoirs magiques parce que leur vision du monde n’est pas soumise à une rationalité stricte contrairement à celle des humains. Les gnomes maintiennent des traditions vieilles de plusieurs millions d’années et leur but ultime est d’accéder à la maturité spirituelle.

Obertura Sinfónica para Banda-Since it opened in 1989 the Institute for Modern Art in Valencia (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderne or simply IVAM) has taken centre stage in advancing and researching all forms of 20th century art. Ferrer Ferran was inspired by the spirit of modern art to compose IVAM an expressive anddazzling symphonic overture for band. A feast of sound!

Pasodoble de Concierto-Consolat de Mar is an uplifting Spanish paso doble expertly crafted to make it an ideal concert opener. The introduction and the following runs convey the pride of the Spanish character. The trio develops a gentle melody that provides a nice contrast to a solemn march-like passage. Dance music at its best!

Concerto for Trumpet and Wind Band-The innovative Spanish composer Ferrer Ferran has taken Greek mythology as an inspiration for his concerto for trumpet and concert band. Hydra the water monster decapitated by Hercules and Iolaus terrorised the area of Lerna near Argos. The concerto is in three sections which contrast with each other. The first section is rhythmical and triumphant the second is calm and melodious and the last part provides an aggressive ending. A welcome addition to the repertoire for solo trumpet and concert band.

Preludio and Andante in Swing for Flugel Horn or Trumpet and Concert Band-This work is inspired by the famous Italian Renaissance painter Raphael and his magnificent paintings; at the same time it’s a very personal work for Ferrer Ferran who dedicated it to his own brother Raphael. The dedication pays tribute to Raphael’sgreatwork in the field of youth music education. Both Raphaels painter and teacher display huge devotion to their work which is beautifully captured in this composition.
