Pro Pace Motets for Unaccompanied Chorus is a set of three motets using text from three medieval writers to explore the theme of peace. The music incorporates early modes as well as making effective use of free atonality all with a thorough grounding in compositional structure. Each of the movements for unaccompanied Chorus has slightly different voicing – SAATBB SATB and SSATBB – which should satisfy an ambitious Chorus. The first movement Libera Plebem transforms a medieval prayer for deliverance from the Black Death into a more general prayer for deliverance from destruction. The second movement is a Lament for the invention of weaponry. The third movement O TristiaSecla Priora celebrates Christ’s ultimate – non-violent – victory.John Joubert is a contemporary composer of South African birth who has lived worked and taught in the UK for the whole of his adult life. He is particularly celebrated for his Choral works though his oeuvre includes symphonies operas chamber music and other works.

This edition features fresh engravings and a paragraph explaining the historical background and context of the work.

These pieces were originally written in 1989 for the composer's daughter Lucy to play on the Piano when she was nine years old. Shortly after this he arranged them for Violin and Piano but Lucy never played them choosing instead to play the Cello!

John Joubert 's And Thou Child Shalt Be Called for SATB choir with Organ accompaniment.

For 11 voices in 3 choirs instruments and continuo. The Scala Aretina is Valls' best-known work taking its name from the Guidonian hexachord upon which it is constructed. The mass gave rise to one of the most contested controversies in the history of music: in the Qui Tollis of the Gloria the entry of the 2nd choir soprano forms an unprepared ninths - certainly an infringement of the rules of harmony. This sparked off an unprecedented battle among Spanish musicians as to the value of rules in musical composition and the value of pleasing the ear as an aesthetic principle as opposed to artistic freedom.

This short chorus is taken from the Romantic Opera Der Freischutz (The Marksman) . The story concerns a young brave huntsman called Max and the full [production features the well-known Huntsmen's Chorus sung by his band of men throughout Bohemian woods. Both the composition and the story are prototypical examples Romantic Opera-writing. In this single-sheet version the chorus has been arranged for the upper or female voices by McNaught and is presented in both vocal score and Tonic Sol-Fa.
