The poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay expresses an appreciation for life for its simple pleasures of nature and civilization. Dickau's writing provides a distinctive piano part and intriguing vocal writing for which he is well-known. The spirit of the piece is upbeat positive and fine craftsmanship. Commissioned for the Southwest ACDA Jr. High Honor Choir in 2014 Jonathan Adams displays his excellent understanding of youthful voices. This a cappella arrangement maintains the gentle qualities of a mother's song to her child while building in interest and harmony. The solo line can be sung by a single voice or a children's choir.
