The Broken Sword is one of the five ceremonial swords kept in the Tower of London and is used during the coronation of a new king or queen. Legend has it that an angel broke off the tip of the sword in an effort to prevent an unjust killing. Composer Kevin Houben lets his music retell this intriguing legend. Broken Sword resembles a film score in many ways and will paint vivid images as the band plays its way through the legend. Many different moods create a contrast-rich work that makes for an exciting listening and playing experience every time!

Dans DOGON Kevin Houben nous séduit par un voyage vers les pentes abruptes de la vallée Dogon en Afrique de l’Ouest. Le peuple Dogon considère la vallée à la fois comme une menace et comme une promesse pour lavenir une dualité exprimée par deslignes mélodiques sombres. Après de mystérieux accords émerge un passage plus tempéré. Enfin trois solistes se font entendre (au cor à la trompette et au saxophone soprano) ils apportent une conclusion colorée et vivifiante rappelant lesspectaculaires danses masquées des Dogons.

For African Beat André Waignein made use of two such features that feature throughout the work:a ubiquitous African rhythm and an ‘Afro-pop’ style which has emerged in the music of the continent in recent decades. Beginning with soft tones in due course the piece builds around a virtuoso motif. The orchestra also continually plays an important role by providing a harmonically and rhythmically balanced accompaniment.

The Golden Gryphon by Tom De Haes portrays three distinguished characteristics of this fascinating mythical beast: the gryphon as guardian of the divine mystery; the winged gryphon pulling the chariot of the sun god Helios; and the gryphon as heroic invincible creature. The composition begins mysteriously before the appearance of the three themes - at _x001F_first individually and then contrapuntally combined. A majestic chorale leads us _x001F_finally to a dignified ending.

In Señor Juancito the Belgian composer Johan Nijs tells the unusual story of a rich gruff nobleman who lives on a large estate and does not feel the slightest need to communicate with the outside world. However one particular day the people who live in the nearby village try to convince him to visit the annual village festival. At first he raises objections but the village people insist so finally Señor Juancito gives in and accepts the invitation. The people’s friendliness makes an impact on him and so in the end a new world opens up for him…

Le passage à la monnaie unique aura été l’un des événements majeurs du début du XXIe siècle en Europe. Les pays qui y ont participé ont investi une énergie considérable dans la création de cette monnaie ; l’Euro est en effet le fruit de leur grande détermination et d’un remarquable travail commun. Sine Labore Nihil (“Rien ne s’accomplit sans travail”) André Waignein avait cette idée à l’esprit lorsqu’il a composé Euro Celebration (“Célébrons l’Euro(pe)”).

This spirited work by Andre Waignein is based on a selection of French folksongs. It consists of three movements each characterised by a particular mood. From the energetic waltz of the first movement to the simple sombre structure of the middle movement this piece takes you through many styles and emotions and will become a true favourite with your band.

Sound Variations is a work comprising of eight short sections each based on a simple theme each characterised by a great variety of styles and sounds. It opens with a fanfare-like introduction that soon leads into the presentation of the main theme followed by five variations on this theme. Each of these variations has its own style: Swing Latin Waltz March and Rock. After a final repeat of the main theme the work comes to an end with a brilliant finale.

In combining his gifts as a composer with his great creative spark André Waignein composed Remember Mozart a delicate and flowing work dedicated to one of the greatest composers in music history Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Remember Mozart develops a single but serene melodic line only interrupted by some measures in the central passage. The primary theme soon returns proceeding with a natural flow and leads the work to a modulatory section - a bridge passage to the Mozartian-flavored finale brilliantly highlighted by a composer filled with admiration for the genius of Salzburg
