for Concert Band-Prairie Winds Festival is a fast happy-go-lucky opener. It is very carefully scored and cross-cued so that almost any size band can perform it. The Piccolo 2nd Oboe 2nd Bassoon Contra-Alto Clarinet 3rd Trombone and Double Bass parts are all optional but if you have these instruments it will sound more full.

When the Second World War began the British March King Kenneth J. Alford (pseudonym for Major F. J. Ricketts R.M.) was increasingly in bad health and had composed relatively little music recently. As Hitler's armies marched victoriously across Europe Britain was soon alone facing the Nazi peril. Alford's great contribution to the war effort was the composition of two of his great masterpieces ARMY OF THE NILE celebrating the first Allied victories over the Germans in North Africa and EAGLE SQUADRON. The latter of these marches celebrates American airmen who travelled to England during the early years of the war (before the entry of the United States into the conflict) tovolunteer for service with the Royal Air Force serving with great distinction during the Battle of Britain. Alford skillfully weaves a number of well-known tunes into the fabric of the music including the Royal Air Force March and The Star-Spangled Banner while also including a reference to the Siegfried motive from Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung. Mark Rogers' edition of this classic march includes a handsome full score and concert size set of parts.

for String Orchestra-Stuart Carlson's Carols of Christmas album for string quartet features seven creative intermediate to advanced arrangements that sparkle with the holiday season. This new series for string orchestra captures the same Yuletide magic with settings geared toward the abilities of middle and high school ensembles. Most passages throughout are playable in first position and bowings are generously placed with an emphasis on musical phrasing and ensemble sound. Among the highlights in this series is Carlson's original composition Christmas Sinfonietta inspired by the festive spirit of Christmas Day itself.

Despite his having moved to the United States with his family when he was 11 years old Robert Nathaniel Dett (1882-1943) was born in Canada where glimpses of his talent had already begun to manifest themselves at an early age. Among Dett's earliest titles was his Characteristic March Two-Step After the Cakewalk. Perhaps written when Dett was just a teenager this current edition is wholly based upon its original 1901 band publication that was arranged by Lee Orean Smith. Smith was also responsible for preparing Dett's piano solo version for publication as well as its form for theatre orchestra and mandolin club. Owing to the fact that Smith's highly idiomatic scoring wasprepared for a band of that period this edition adapts edits and extends Smith's instrumentation in order to make it possible for Dett's music to become available to a new generation of musicians and listeners alike. This exciting work follows a ride on the TGV France's bullet train. It opens with the sounds of a French railway station and parallels a journey with various accelerations and speed shifts. (Grade 4) Dur: 3:00

Genesys Fanfare was written for and performed by the members of the Brass and Percussion sections of the Flint Symphony Orchestra. Later the work was rescored for full orchestra and ultimately for concert band in this present arrangement. This band version was first performed in 2016 by the combined Wind Ensembles of Texas Lutheran University conducted by Beth Bronk. The musical ideas for this fanfare are straightforward - the theme is a rhythmic representation of the name of the institution that commissioned the piece - Genesys Hospital. The asymmetrical repetition of the spoken rhythm however yields a refreshingly compelling pulse which drives the music all the waythrough.

Full Score-Ballade for Strings is about the journey to and the arrival on the ultimate tonic key of D major at the very end of the piece but not before. The work employs four distinct thematic elements. Expressive playing is required throughout. Ballade is written for advancing ensembles with expanded use of rhythms ranges and keys but technical demands are still carefully considered. Viola T.C. and optional piano reduction are included.
