This new publication replaces the old Latham edition (now out of print) - popular title on both ABRSM and TG double bass syllabuses (grade 7). Dennis Leogrande writes: I began writing the melody first although every piece begins differently. I wanted to begin with a sound that for me is very characteristic of the bass that being the ½ step slide from G# to A. Looking throughout the piece you will notice other slides ie. bars 1 3 5 7 12 14 16 18 38 58 114 116 18 120 123 125 and 127. Please don't forget to notice the grace note slide in measure 100. These are the melodic motifs that give the piece its character and act as hooks(memorable ideas) for the listener to latch on to. Once I began writing the melody it just grew organically from the original idea. I hope you feel the same organic growth. The shifting harmonic tonalities (between D major and D minor) seem to ask the question 'May I?' and keep the listener involved in trying to answer the question. The jazz style keeps the 'question' light hearted a little 'tongue in cheek.' However playing this piece requires attention to these details and a great deal of musicianship. It's the fine musician who understands both the music and the instrument who can make a difficult and complicated piece sound easy light and fun. Oh and yes please enjoy!

Jazz Hands is a series of original jazz pieces for piano by Mark Tanner which covers all standards from grade one through to red hot. Jazz Hands is a series of original jazz pieces for Piano by Mark Tanner which covers all standards from grade one through to red hot. Although the player may feel free to indulge in a spot of improvisation in response to the printed music there is no expectation to do so in any of the books. Nor are there any chord symbols or other bespoke abbreviations the like of which presuppose a degree of familiarity with the genre which may not actually be the case. Rather the idea is that the player will become gradually more confident and adept at playing in a jazz style as he/she works through the books. It may well be that a classically-trainedpianist has reached say grade 5 but feels currently at a more modest stage when tackling jazz. This is absolutely not a problem and indeed is all the more reason for the 'straight' player to extend their jazz skills to match. The title of this series 'Jazz Hands' derives from the familiar exuberant gesturing seen in music theatre – fingers spread and extended with palms facing upwards an effect frequently amplified by a convulsive shivering of the hands. Cheerleaders have tended to make widespread use of jazz hands while the concept has also found its way into revues Broadway shows and films as well as contemporary dance. In the current context I am of course referring to the jazz pianist's hands which in only the most ambitiously spaced Art Tatum chord would require the player to stretch the digits to such an extent as in the aforementioned theatrical sense. The term 'jazz' has been adopted and adapted in a multiplicity of ways (not unlike 'classical' indeed) so that it no longer tells us very much about the music itself. Aficionados immediately recognise the better-known subgenres such as 'bebop' or 'New Orleans' styles and may even be able to distinguish 'smooth' from 'groove' or 'fusion/crossover' from 'postmodern'. And yet these are just labels not music. In an understandable bid to define all that we hear

These arrangements were written for string ensembles in primary and secondary schools music centres prep schools and for various ensembles at Charterhouse. They grew out of a need for playable yet musically challenging arrangements where maximum 'effect' is obtained by using naturally resonant keys and idiomatic bowings - and have been used and honed over many years. They also recognise the fact that in many schools Viola players are scarce; most of the easier arrangements are therefore in three parts with optional Viola and optional double bass.

Susan Milan acclaimed soloist and teacher has edited this elegant edition. Susan Milan discovered the charming Popp Sonatinas Op. 388 while researching 19th century Flute repertoire in the British Museum Library. These beautifully crafted works are all without exception a delight to play and suitable for a broad level of player. They are a lovely example of Classical style and detailed in a way that makes them a joy to perform and as they are less than 10 minutes long they are a perfect addition to a short recital programme. Replaces the old edition HE35 from Hunt Edition. First published in Hamburg in 1888. In editing the Sonatinas Susan Milan has tidied some of the articulation making the Flute part consistent. Discrepancies between markings in the Flute and Piano part have been corrected. She has occasionally added some slurs where the lyrical nature of a section might be enhanced and staccati have been added where it appears to have been missing. On the whole expression marks have not been added or changed original markings.

Dance of the Universe' is a colourful 50-minute cantata for tenor soloist choir and small orchestra. It uses part of the poem 'Orchestra or a poem of dancing' by the 16th - century poet Sir John Davies: here the earth the sun and the stars are shown to move in an ordered dance-like motion giving the opportunity for much exciting and direct musical imagery. It is very suitable for choral societies looking for a contemporary but accessible piece which shares the same orchestral scoring as many choral works of the classical period.

20 progressive studies for Bb Clarinet-Everyone loves Latin music which has been a particular favourite genre of mine to write in having grown up listening to jazz bands and playing in them as a teenager. Most people can name a handful of the more well-known dances (thanks to the popularity of Strictly Come Dancing!) but I knew there were many more lesser-known Latin styles out there. So in August 2015 I decided to research some of the many dance forms of the Caribbean and South America. After listening to these and discovering a little of their history and musical characteristics I decided to write my own versions as a set of 20 pieces. Latin Lovelies is the result.
