Grades 6 - 8-The second of the two books covering the timpani grade examinations for the popular London College of Music and Media percussion syllabus adds piano accompaniments to a number of the pieces which represent a wide selection of exciting composers currently writing in this field. Three timpani are required for Grades 7 and 8. Details of tuning requirements specimen sight-reading and aural tests plus guidance for the viva voce are included along with a separate piano part supplied with the volume.

Standard: Intermediate A languid melody for solo horn and a rich-coloured piano accompaniment evoke a mood not so far from the landscape tradition of The Lark Ascending but with an out-of-doors quality entirely its own. Summer Pastures is set for the Guildhall School and London College examinations.

Score and Parts Standard: Elementary Christine Brown is a highly respected teacher and composer for young people and in her Chandos Suite for violin cello and piano she marries her wealth of practical experience in coaching elementary players in the art of chamber music with her distinctively tuneful way of writing for the three instruments. A wistful Prelude precedes a mysterious scherzo of plucked and bowed whole-tone scales. A Serenade gives all the players a chance to shine in cantabile melody before the pulsating rhythms of the final Dance bring the suite to a brilliant conclusion. The Chandos Suite is a worthy addition to Stainer &Bell's collection of classic piano trios for young musicians including popular works by Frank Bridge Adam Carse Cornelius Gurlitt and Peter Martin.

As in his other carol for Choral Now Follow the star Edmund Jolliffe in Christus Natus Hodie paints a Christmas scene in his own words: a joyful image of children tucked up in bed on a snowy Christmas Eve while dreaming of Santa's reindeer hauling a sledge-full of presents through the sky. The bluesy swing idiom perfectly suggests the mood of sleepy expectation with more lively duets in scat style. Listen out for the echoing church bells of Christmas morning and an exultant chorus for divisi trebles to 'Celebrate this special day'.

Grades 5 - 8-This CD contains the piano accompaniments for grades 5 to 8 and may be used by candidates in their examination as an alternative to live accompaniment.

Edited by Nicholas Sandon Taverner and Tye are the predominant influences in these works. The 6-part Mass Cantate is taken from the Oxford partbooks. The source for The Western Wind Mass The Frences Mass the Mass Be not afraid and the Plainsong Mass for a Mean all in four parts is the so-called 'Gyffard' partbooks (British Library Add. MSS 17802-5) which are now known to have been copied after Elizabeth’s accession for a Catholic patron Dr Philip Gyffard Fellow of Merton College Oxford.

A title for each letter of the alphabet these 26 pieces explore a wide variety of styles including jazz and blues; modes and the pentatonic scale are used in addition to major and minor keys with no more than two sharps of flats. 'O' for 'Oriental Song' has a key signature of six flats but it is a pentatonic piece all on the black keys. Grades 1-2. Delightfully illustrated by Michael Sheard.

Wendy Max one of Britain's most highly respected specialist teachers of young players has edited the transposed solo part with bowings and fingerings to reflect contemporary approaches to early-stage learning for the instrument but leaving the music unaltered.
