Edited by Nicholas Sandon Taverner and Tye are the predominant influences in these works. The 6-part Mass Cantate is taken from the Oxford partbooks. The source for The Western Wind Mass The Frences Mass the Mass Be not afraid and the Plainsong Mass for a Mean all in four parts is the so-called 'Gyffard' partbooks (British Library Add. MSS 17802-5) which are now known to have been copied after Elizabeth’s accession for a Catholic patron Dr Philip Gyffard Fellow of Merton College Oxford.

A title for each letter of the alphabet these 26 pieces explore a wide variety of styles including jazz and blues; modes and the pentatonic scale are used in addition to major and minor keys with no more than two sharps of flats. 'O' for 'Oriental Song' has a key signature of six flats but it is a pentatonic piece all on the black keys. Grades 1-2. Delightfully illustrated by Michael Sheard.

Reflecting his admiration for the age of flying boats and Bakelite radios the 'Art-Deco Suite' is an affectionate study in nostalgia - a trio of images from the 1920s and 30s set in music of timeless elegance. The first piece 'Ritzy' speaks for itself: classy carefree and full of elite syncopations. 'Acacia Avenue' in contrast is a miniature tone poem its languidly flowing melody conjuring up visions of neat suburban 'semis' and impeccably tended gardens. The unstoppable finale 'To Clarice' pays homage to the popular Clarice Cliff ceramics of the period superbly decorated in black orange and lime and now as much a collector's item as this composition has provedto be amongst lovers of stylish organ music.

The lively Tambourin by Rameau is among the most popular of baroque instrumental pieces and in H.
