12 Pieces For Beginner Double Bass- Feathered Friends is a set of 12 short enjoyable characterful and lively pieces for the beginner bassist and was composed in 2009 for Recital Music's BassLine project. Each piece can be played in 1st position although half position can be produced in several and they employ a limited number of notes keys note values and rhythms. The 10 pieces contained in this book exemplify the breadth of musical styles that can be played on the Classical Guitar. Each piece has extensive performance notes and covers the works of composers such as J.S. This is an artfully crafted setting of a beautiful poem by Matthew Meiklejohn. It is rich in contrasting material and many of the text's images are apparent in the music. The violin part contributes much to the setting and has moments of virtuosity amidst the energetic piano writing and expansive choral textures.

Its shape is simple - a stage-by-stage progression from slow and gentle to a dense climax at double speed then a return to the spirit if not the material of the opening. Its public première the first of any of mycompositions was given by Susan Bradshaw at a Macnaghten Concert in November 1961.
