Great performers have proven that the trumpet can be successfully used for playing not only classic music but also symphonic or chamber music from the classical romantic or modern period just as well as any other musical instrument. No longer is contemporary repertoire considered unfit for the trumpet.Every sincere instrumentalist needs a regular study program. A daily practice of technical exercises and etudes is necessary for improving and maintaining the desired results. Regularly playing works of music should be the aim of every musician amateur as well as professional. The best keys have been carefully chosen for trumpet and therefore many songs are not in thekeys in which they were originally written. Also a number of other adaptations have been introduced to make the music more suitable for performance on the trumpet in B flat. The structure of the music has not been altered. Composers include: Mozart Beethoven Haydn Praetorius Corrette Mozart Handel Bach Hook Lully Boismortier Schumann Rameau Saint-Saens Purcell and Martini. The piano accompaniment is available as a free download. In this small-scale song cycle Taverner coloured his melodic Soprano lines with Eastern European and Slavic flavour. At some points the composer interplayed the Piano line with the sung melody and at other times used the Pianoas drone and allows the Vocal line to soar above. The ‘love’ of the title is according to the composer ‘the notion of Eros raised to the divine ’ and the texts are written mostly by monks.John Tavener was that rare creature acomposer of serious music and serious religious music who has also achieved commercial success. He burst into the popular consciousness with the performance of his Song for Athene at the funeral of Princess Diana but had been ahighly respected and frequently-performed composer since the premiere of his dramatic cantata The Whale in 1968.

The Double Bass part for Michael Hurd’s Swingin’ Samson an enormously fun pop cantata. Divided into six sections this lively and toe-tapping show is fabulous for schools or amateur performance. Highlights of the cantata include the scene in a barber’s shop with a background of snipping scissors. This is followed by a splendid music-hall song where the whole audience can join in! The finale describes the Philistine’s party - set as a square dance - at the end of which Samson pulls down the whole building! Bring the house down with this wonderful 10 minute cantata!
