Cantate Domino (Psalm 96:1–3). This piece was originally written for male choir (BA 7416). By adding women’s voices the version for mixed choir presents a further dimension of colour. This version also makes it possible to divide the choir into two groups one for women and another for men and to have them sing either together or as separate units. This version for mixed choir (BA 7414) was premiered in Uppsala Cathedral (Sweden) on 26 October 2013 with the Uppsala Cathedral Singers conducted by Ulric Andersson.

The concept of this piece is based on a harmonic lay-out it has been composed using huge chordal succsessions out of which the music follows meanderlike paths alternating between layers. Duo Concertante is outlined by soloists yet the ensemble articulates deeper levels in the musical material. Alan Turing is considered the father of modern computational science and much if not all of our modern computer technology and the connectivity that we now take for granted is born of the work of this one great but troubled man. His famous test was designed to prove whether artificial intelligence (AI) could successfully imitate human thought. The single movement of The Turing Test is essentially non-programmatic but it does seek to show something of the emotion and colour of Turing’s life in its different sections. The composer employs bi-tonality and complex rhythms to show opposing worlds colliding. At the end of each test we must decide: has true AI beenborn?
