The German composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) wrote his Academic Fesival Overture in the summer of 1880 together with the Tragic Overture. The occasion was the honorary degree which Brahms had received a year before from the University of Breslau. Initially Brahms had sent a thank-you note but he was expected to express his gratitude with a composition. The premiere took place on 4 January 1881 - conducted by the composer himself - in Breslau. For this sparkling work Brahms used various German student songs as a basis in an inventive way - and a little jestingly. Owing to the accessible development lyrical warmth humor and persuasiveness the Academic Festival Overtureis still a popular concert work. This transcription for concert band which has been written by Tohru Takahashi does justice to the original composition.

Violin 2 Coro II- The Missa in F of 1734 for two or four choirs is probably Pergolesi ’s most important work for choir and orchestra. The nickname 'Missa Romana' was added later in reference to a performance given in Rome during Pergolesi ’s lifetime. This Urtext edition presents the work for the first time in the four-choir version that Pergolesi wrote for the above mentioned performance in Rome. Choirs III and IV are reproduced in smaller type and are added to the version for double choir in order to intensify the overall sound. This allows the work to be performed not only with two choirs but also in the delightful enlarged version for fourchoirs. Sketches from Nowhere is the second composition that Thomas Doss has written for brass band. The title was inspired by various images the composer saw in his mind’s eye while working on this piece: pictures of foreign places; pictures of the creation of our world. The main motif that weaves its way from the beginning to the end of the work is meant to parallel humanity’s great evolution: from its humble beginnings as mere stardust to the present day.
