Violine 2- Concerto for Flute Violin Violoncello Strings and Basso Continuo in A major (TWV 53:A2) Tafelmusik I If Telemann was regarded by his contemporaries as one of the greatest of all composers his star faced with the overwhelming presence of Bach and Handel paled in the course of the 19th century to the verge of contempt. This assessment changed radically during the course of the last century. Through the systematic exploration of his music Telemann once considered purely an instrumental composer has emerged into a highly cultivated culturally well-connected and enormously versatile artistic personality who left an indelible mark on the musical life of his time.Again and again we discover an individual approach in his works that seems to abandon the musical conventions of his day both large and small. The Tafelmusik (Musique de Table) is a collection of chamber pieces for various ensembles arranged into 3 parts and is perhaps Telemann's most celebrated collection of music. Composed in 1733 the Tafelmusik clearly demonstrates Telemann's skill in handling a diversity of musical genres and a variety of instruments. - Urtext of the Telemann Edition

This is sure to be one of those orchestral transcriptions that finds a permanent place in the realm of concert band literature. Holst’s ability to develop and explore folk melodies with rich lyrical treatment is fully realised in this sterling example of the final phase of this remarkable composer’s career. The smooth and peaceful declivities of the Prelude the expressive Cantabile of the Air and the sprightly 6/8 Dance combine to give your audience and your band a truly enriching experience.

As President of Juilliard William Schuman requested a major piece from his close friend in celebration of the school's fiftieth anniversary. Copland thought the Juilliard anniversary an ideal occasion for the premiere of Piano Fantasy which he was composing in honour of William Kapell. Copland admitted that it was difficult to write particularly the fast sections. He explained My purpose was to suggest the quality of fantasy a spontaneous and unpremeditated sequence of events that would carry the listener along while at he same time exemplify clear if somewhat unconventional structural principles. Although the work was not ready by the date for which it wascommissioned Schuman arranged a special concert for the premiere by the pianist William Masselos. Copland commented Lucky for me that the president of Juilliard was a composer! Piano. Copland A

We urge you to look at this important new composition by James Curnow. This symphonic variant style treatment of themes based on the shape-note tune Resignation is a magnificent compositional exploration. Once your group has achieved the ability to perform at this level of difficulty they deserve to play music with the challenge and masterful quality that Inventions from the Sacred Harp presents. Even a brief analysis of the score reveals composition and development techniques that are reserved for pieces on an impressive scale. A more thorough analysis lets you appreciate the complexity of the compositional processes found in the very fabric of this major work. The historical significance of The Sacred Harp provides the opportunity for some cross-curricular work as well.

Probably composed in 1690 the Messe de Minuït pour Noël H 9 is perhaps Marc-Antoine Charpentier's best-known composition after the Te Deum H 146. The special appeal of this Mass for the Midnight Service on Christmas Eve lies in its use of no fewer than ten traditional French carols while impressively revealing Charpentier's mastery of the concertante style. The eight solo vocalists (SSAATTBB) can easily be taken from the chorus. They are divided into three groups - one group of two sopranos and two groups each comprising alto tenor and bass - which interact with the chorusand instruments. This new edition represents the current state of scholarship and offers a completely revised Urtext of Charpentier's masterpiece. - Urtext based on the latest scholarly research - Straightforward and easy-to-play keyboard reduction - Duration: approx. 25 minutes - Full score & parts (BA7592) and vocal score (BA7592-90) available for sale

Easier Piano Pieces 56-Telemann composed three dozen Fantasias published in 1732. He deliberately set out to juxtapose the French and Italian styles. Marks of dynamics and of articulation have been added and so have harmony notes of inner parts which would have been improvised by the player in an 18th-century performance. Telemann composed three dozen Fantasias which were published in 1732. He deliberately set out to juxtapose the French and Italian styles with the first and third (published here) dozen having Italian titles and tempo markings and the second dozen French. the editorial aim of these albums has been to present a text that allows as stylish a rendering as possible bearing in mind that the majority of players will be pianists rather than harpsichordists. Marks of dynamics and of articulation have been added and so have harmony notes of inner parts which would have been improvised by the player in an 18th-century performance.
